Gm Answer To Dodge Powerwagon

True they dont move a lot of powerwagons or raptors, I do know our local ford dealer has recieved 2 raptors and they both sold real quick, my friend bought his 06 powerwagon new in 2008 so it sat for about 2 years. and there are at least 2 more new powerwagons around our town in fact we pulled in with the 06 next to a new one last week at Applebee's (Port Huron MI, not a 4 corner town but not big either). I am not saying they need to make thousands of these things but market them right and they will sell.

 

For myself I would probably go buy a ZR2 Silverado if they make it (not happy about the rumor of a 52k sticker), dont care for the duramax but if thats the option then thats what I get. I have considered a few times selling the Silverado for a powerwagon... For something I use for light off road, towing, and in bad weather those 4.56 gears and e-lockers sound good, its not driven daily so I could care less about 13mpg.

 

Another let down was walking around and sitting in a Silverado SS with the "new 427" and a six speed rcsb they had at the GM tent a few years back. I told the guy I would pre order one on the spot if they made them! Still its nothing more than a concept, while I see SRT 10 rcsb, and ford lighting.

We can beat and debate this for a long time, it's all in personal preference to what and how you use your truck. I have a friend that has a Raptor, if I wasn't so pro GM I would go look at getting one myself.

 

Something no one has asked, how many trucks do GM dealers sell that have been sent to up-fitters like Rocky Ridge that are already lifted? Track down those numbers and maybe it's worthwhile for GM to produce something that is factory built?

That is a popular thing at our local GM dealer. They send a new truck to the pro's and have a 6" lift put on it. Then jack the price up to well over what you can buy the truck for new and have the lift installed yourself. Those go quick, they do the same thing with a truck if they are having trouble selling it.

gm has to be very careful on what they push off the line because if they make something and spend a big hunk of cash on it and it doesnt sell. they would be under the gun, all those vehicles you mention are so over priced and pointless anyways. the only good thing going for them is warranty. think about it..you could buy a brand new plain jane RCSB chevy for like less than 20k, spend another 10k on a crazy baja-tough race suspension and another 10k on a motor/tranny. it would still be faster/tougher than any raptor for the same price. i have seen lots of those raptors at the grocery store i find it hilarious one could be so irresponsible with their money....IMO

All the manufactures are under the gun today. My Silverado was overpriced as far as I'm concerned, there really isn't a vehicle out there that isn't. My Harley Davidson was overpriced for a motorcycle, but I still buy them. Guess you could say I'm irresponsible with my money? But when you have no debt, and I'm not taking it with me when i'm done here I guess that's how it works? Maybe I'm a little different in the fact I'm not buried in debt with multiple mortgages and car payments. Strange I know to find someone that can actually manage their money.

 

Having a fast truck is pointless. Yes my 6.2 probably runs in the 14's, but it also can haul, tow and go in deep mud and snow. One can argue that every option on the truck is pointless....

 

I'm not here to argue, and I won't but just because someone doen't like what others like is why they make different items, and music for that matter. So just read the forums and make educated posts, not ones for arguments sake... We all have our own opinions, sometimes it may be better to keep them to ourselves then hide behind a computer and stir things? Besides my Silverado was at the grocery store today, so what!

They probably have done some analysis and it is not cost effective. Not enough would buy them to offset all the upfront costs. Thats why there are aftermarket companies, go build exactly what you want. How are Raptors selling by you? I see them in the auto magazines here original MSRP $56K on sale for 41K. Cool concept just wouldnt draw the necessary sales for a business case.

 

I have seen about 10 raptors this school year and one power wagon . Its nice Ford and Dodge build things that dont always make alot of money but make customers happy and get some bragging rights .

Its always nice tho for a company to go beyond our basics needs and build something that is awesome even if its not a practical thing.

well said . I am debt free , Paid my 05 truck off in 2010 took me 5 years. My education I dont need to take a school loan out for . I work my skinny little ass off commercial fishing and been lucky enough to get hired on the same boat year after year. That being said I dont care what other people spend here money on. Hell if they want to buy a raptor and lower it with spinner rims that is just fine because I would not care.

 

Its much more important to look at your self and worry about your self then the guy beside you. Life is hard enough as it is .

They also just happen to make badass offroad trucks as well for those who are able and willing to buy them. What would you say if GM actually put one of their concept trucks into production?

Us GM fan boys will always bitch and complain when the other side of the fence offers something that is nice. I notice we will always say our tech is proven or its not practical but I know for a fact if we had those trucks or a new unproven engine line up we would be bragging even louder than the ford and dodge boys do. This reminds me when I was in grade 8 talking about ford vs chev or dodge . If a car maker had something better than there competitors there was always something to bitch about like its unpractical or unproven but as soon as chev came with somthing that was not really practical or proven the chev grade 8ers (i was the quiet kid ) would brag about it .

I remember quad steer the guys here that are saying the raptor and power wagon are not practical and should not be build probably said back in the day when it came out that quad steer is amazing and that over expensive option is worth it to turn better lol .

The way I see it, GM and Chrysler should not produce anything they will not make money on until they pay back John Q Taxpayer for the bailout. If Ford wants to build the Raptor and sell them in the real world at a loss, so be it as long as they don't need a bail-out.

 

This is why Honda and Toyota have made "boring" vehicles for years, they know what the vast majority of the population wants to spend their money on.

I wouldn't mind having a raptor, it would come in useful to get to town sometimes, I'm happy with my truck though

... I don't like this GMC concept because it's too blingy: IMO folding steps, body matched bumpers, etc don't belong on an offroader. The less there is to break/scratch/fill with mud the better. But that's just me, I think they would sell quite a few. There is obviously a market, look at all the pimped out lifted GMs running around.

I guess this explains why I bought the Jeep Cherokee SRT8 instead of another Yukon. Had GM built a Tahoe or Yukon SS that handled and performed great I would have bought that in a second. When it came time to buy a truck, I went back to GM because I was not looking for a performance or halo vehicle, just a middle of the pack truck. GM really does need to have some more specialty vehicles in their lineup,

IMO GM need to make their costumers happy. Only a happy costumer will return.

 

I love GM trucks especially the new design. And I like the 5.3L AFM. But when it starts to become an issue (oil consumption, ticking lifters etc) GM should work really really hard to not let it happen again.

 

I don't need a GM V6 twin turbo just because of Ford build one.

My truck runs only on 4 cylinders when I don't need all the power and switches back to 8 cylinders when I need them.

So why do I need a "half hearty thrown together" engine just to beat the competition when I have a better engine for sale already? Just make it even better!

 

What I'm trying to say is: back to the roots. Build reliable trucks! Be more accommodating when costumers have got problems. Don't throw a car together just because it is just "inn".
