Ok, so I cruise into Autozone the other day to get some oil and a new oil filter.  I decide I want to purchase a Fram SureDrain but when I ask for the one for my truck, the guy says there isn't one.  I do remember hearing people using them here so anyone know if there is one for my truck?  I want one, it seems so much easier.

My advice is stay away from fram altogether....they don't use very high quality materials.....go with purolator.  Just my two cents.

I bought the Fram Suredrain for my wifes car. To be honest with you, I really don't think it saves time. All it does is keep oil off of your hands. I will not be buying one for my truck for a few reasons:

1. I don't think it lets all of the debris out of the pan since the hole is kinda small.

2. It costs way too #### much.

3. It doesn't save time.

4. Its a hassle to keep up with the stupid screw on tube.

5. I don't change my oil with the engine hot anyway, I believe pouring cold oil in a hot engine increases sludge.(Not proven)

 

Keep your money and buy some extra tools! Getting Motor Oil on your hands is a right of man-hood.

Not thrilled with Fram products either. I have heard a lot of problems with start up knocking, yes knocking but in every vehicle that a fram filter was on, mainly my friends 86 cougar. He switched to the motorcraft and imagine that the knock went away. Their slogan, "pay a little now and not a lot later"  yea right!!!!!

 

I agree with JonesNTN. Oh and the right to manhood thing too. :thumb:

Yea just make sure they are real tools (snap-on or mac)

 

BTW diesel fuel , geal oil , grease , dirt and mud is a right of manhood too  :thumb:

I think the sure-drain kicks azz.  Sure its a little slow, but thats when u go drink a cold beer.  With the sure drain and a well placed hole on the filter, u can get the job done with no grease on the hands.  It may not be as manly as u guys like it, but I dont think the ladies are impressed with greasy hands now r they?  :cheers:

My lady is real impressed! I do it for free vs. her paying $20 to some grease monkey and having to wait. I don't think she cares about any mess as long as she don't clean it up. :cheers:

Do a search for this topic. I posted the one that fits the 5.3L.  I called and emailed Fram.  I put it on, but took it off. I did not like the slow drain speed.  Just a personal preference. It does work and seems to be well thought out.

I also agree that it is a good idea, although I was still dissapointed after a couple of oil changes. One really good thing about it is that when you change oil on a windy day, you don't have to shield the oil from blowing all over the place. But a very large garage/shop does the job very well too! Also serves as a good home for all of your tools and man-toys! :cheers:

Tell me about it...the assorted yard machines(no, not MTD) are still waiting to be drained and have fuel stabilizer put in them.

it keeps everything clean and was well thought out, but it is way too slow and I don't like the idea of losing the magnet when you toss the oem plug.............just my 2 cents

That kinda made me think of the commercial with the guy that leaves hand-marks in different places: one on his wife's butt, one on some pr**ks crappy sports car (probably a furd), one on a sandwich, etc.  Those are great.  Just like the Real Men of Genius beer commercials I hear on the radio.  Great stuff.

Yes, the handprints on her backside are great.  I have the Budlight commercials on mp3...they're priceless.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
