I was up for my 6 month renewal with Geico, and after a $50 increase in premiums for no real reason, I decided to shop around for insurance. I checked with several companies, and they were all very close to Geico's rates. I finally got an internet quote from 21st, and they actually quoted me $97 less than Geico. I called Geico asking my why rates had been increasing, and they said, I had not done anything wrong. Apparently, they were increasing rates in Texas across the board because of some higher costs for them. Bunch of BS if you ask me. I signed up with 21st, and I'm hoping that my rates don't change after 6 month. If you have some time, be sure to get a quote from them. It was definitely worth it for me.

There's definitely something to rates being higher in Texas. Because of my unusual residence situation, I occasionally get reinsured in Arizona. I have Liberty Mutual and the same policy with the same amounts of coverage across the board costs me $700/year LESS in Arizona than in Texas. I guess Texas deserves its reputation for crappy drivers.

21st will increase your rate upon renewal, I guarantee it (from experience).

That's what I'm worried about. If they do, I'll be sure to look for another company. Most companies gave me a quote comparable to Geico, so I'm not too worried about losing any discounts for being a "loyal customer" to Geico.
