racerx520 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 im looking at a flowmaster super 40. i cant find many things for 4.8L gm motors and this muffler. ive found some clips on youtube, but some soundbytes are pretty rough on there and its hard to tell how good it sounds. I dont want something super loud (got my 87 t/a with no cats, super 80 and electric cut outs for that) but i definately would like a more aggressive sound. anyone have any good reviews on the 4.8L loud sound?
Stevens03 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 The 5.3 and 4.8 sound near identical. So if you like it for the 5.3, you'll like it for the 4.8
racerx520 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 hmm...ok. im looking for some exra sound out of my 4.8. do you think a super 40 is too loud?
zach1990 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The 4.8 might be small but it sounds dang good. My set up would be way to loud for you but i've got true dual straights and i get compliments all the time on how well it sounds. If i had to get a muffler id go Flowmaster 40 series myself. You'll love it
MikeNH Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I had a Super 40 on my '03 4.8 and it had a nice sound but was way too loud in the cab for my tastes. Not to mention FM mufflers don't hold up too good to winter road conditions it seems. Mine looked awful after a couple winters and I took the truck to a car wash every week or two.

racerx520 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 other route im looking at is magnaflow. ive heard good things about them. anyone have any suggestions on those?
mhenshaw Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Don't buy Flowmaster they do fall apart. Plus the chambered muffler hurts performance. Magnaflow is kinda of quiet to me. I took a gamble on MBRP 3 years ago and I couldn't be happier with the sound. Sounds like flowmaster but straight through design. It has a nice deep sound and is loud. Another good exhaust is Corsa DB series, they sound mean. If you want louder get glasspacks.
racerx520 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 im not looking for anything terribly loud. i would like to hear a little tone over the humm of these 34" KM2's though now im stuck between the dynomax super turbo and the dynomax ultra flo i think. they both sound great
kstruckcountry Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Just got a Magnaflow 14" on mine, i love it. Nice tone, and not too loud. A little drone at 70, not bad though, and it's still coming straight out the side. Should be even quieter if you put it out at a 45 or straight back

racerx520 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 i think i may go for the dynomax ultra flo. but it appears to be just a glass pack, is it more than that? from the sound clips i have found the ultra flo sounds pretty mean, plus ive heard good reviews about how they hold up
MikeNH Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I've been quite happy with my dB/Corsa exhaust-
racerx520 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 I've been quite happy with my dB/Corsa exhaust- your truck sounds really good. but do you have a whole cat-back system? im looking for only a muffler right now to save money.
MikeNH Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 It is cat-back. Corsa won't sell you just the muffler. Kit was around $550 if memory serves.
