Fuel Gauge and other problems

I was searching and found this thread. My '09 now ha 37k miles and twice the gas gauge suddenly drops to empty. Both times I had to turn the truck off for at least a minute for it to start working. If I turned it off and on again it didn't "reset". I'm sure there's more info about this so I'll keep searching but I figure someone on this thread may know.

Here is the latest on my truck. I still have not replaced the sender as I am not sure if it really the problem. The gas gauge still drops to empty everytime I fill up. However, if I drive 50 yds or more and stop and put it park, the gauge comes back up as Rockysierra alluded to early in the thread. I recently acquired a manual with a schematic to try and understand what might be going on, but the lines terminate in the control module so I have not been able to conclude anything. Perhaps there are corrosion/deposits on the sender "wipers" and the voltage is marginal to break through it, and when I shift into park, the voltage level comes up and is able to get through deposits? Without an understanding of what is going on in the control module this is a WAG, but it seems to be very consistent on my truck this is the only guess I have right now. If anyone has any better insight, I am ready to learn.

BTW, I have run 2 tanks of Chevron with techron through and it has not changed anything.

Did you buy the concentrate Techron bottles? Run 2 bottles of that through. Just simply filling up with Chevron fuel with Techron will not make a difference unless you've been using Chevron for many months.

RockySierra,

I did not use the concentrate, so will give that a try and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip.

no worries bro. I hope it works, if it does not, then your only resolution will likely be to replace the sending unit.
