Now what is wrong with my ABS? Im about to give up

1999 Silverado. Before my ABS and brake lights were on all the time. I figured out it was the EBCM. I replaced that, and the lights stay off now. So it snows the other day, and I am excited to punch the brakes and not slide for the first time. Well the abs works as it should for the first 5 seconds then it stops working, the abs light comes on, and it starts to slide. It does it everytime almost identically. I've replaced the EBCM, front driver side hub (new sensor), cleaned the passenger side sensor, sanded to fresh metal on the EBCM ground. I have all new rotors, pads, calipers. What else is there that I need to fix to get the abs to work? Would clearing the old codes out do anything from when the light was on constantly before? Im begining to wish I wouldve never tried to fix the ABS, it's becoming more of a headache then its worth

What code is setting? There's much more to an abs system than just replacing the ebcm, hub bearings, cleaning sensors and cleaning grounds, trust me.

Since the ABS in the GMT800's suck, you just need to do what I did. Ignore the annoying orange ABS light. :)

Soooo just hit the brakes & cross your fingers of whether or not your ABS is working. Maybe I'll stop in time, maybe I'll just slam into the guys bumper in front of me...just saying...!!!!

You drive differently without ABS. ABS stops you quicker on average, but I never had issues before I had it, and don't recall it ever saving me. I still brake as if I don't have it, most of the time. It mostly kicks in on ice/snow in stupid situations, when I know better. I'd probably try to fix it, if I could figure out the reason (starting with error codes). I wouldn't do it for safety, so much as I would just to satisfy myself (don't like things disabled or not working).

Exactly my point if you have an operable ABS people tend to brake later than without ABS. So if you have a questionably operating system you may run into problems if you rely on this system to stop you in time. So "ignoring" a light on your dash may not be the answer. I also drive as though I don't have ABS since I learned to drive in a '78 Olds Delta 88 (Titanic class...lol) boat. Trying to remember to NOT pump the brakes in my first ABS equipped vehicle...now that was not fun.

Not on the OP's '99. I had a '00, and GM's ABS is a POS on those trucks.

ABS doesn't make you stop FASTER, it makes you stop SLOWER. ABS's only benefit is it still allows you to manouver around abstacles since the wheels don't lock up. And on the GMT800's, as soon as one wheel detected slip (hit a pothole, one slippery spot in a dry road), the ABS is on full tilt until you release the brake and reapplied it.

I was glad when my ABS died. I had a lot more near misses with that shat than without.

The newer version in the GMT900's pulses the ABS a lot faster than the old and is substancially better.

Anyways. The code being throw is C0245

C0245 - Wheel Speed Sensor Frequency Error

Im going to search, but does anyone have input? Is this the sensor in the transmission?

Normally if its the left or right wheel sensor it would throw codes the codes below correct? I have none of these, only C0245

C0221 - Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open

C0222 - Right Front Wheel Speed Signal Missing

C0223 - Right Front Wheel Speed Signal Erratic

C0225 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open

C0226 - Left Front Wheel Speed Signal Missing

C0227 - Left Front Wheel Speed Signal Erratic

My truck is a 99' 5.3L 4WD 3.73 gears with rear disc brakes. Since I replaced the EBCM...do I need to reprogram it for the 3.73...since maybe the original ebcm was not a 3.73 truck?

If you replaced/swapped the ebcm it will need to be correctly set for the correct tire size. That will set the C0245 you are dealing with now.

Ok thanks, is this something I can do with a scan tool? Or do i need to take it in and have it done
