Cold Squeaking Brakes Normal?

I have a 2005 silverado ext cab 5.3. Ever since it started getting cold my brakes squeak at first. It only does it on the first few stops, after that they are fine. Does that mean I need new brakes?

Mine do that . I have a 05 silverado 4.3l if its like really cold out first pump or so and then its gone . I think its fine at least with the reading up I did on it .

funny how this "normal" annoying things are on our truck that we just accept. When other brand names ive driven dont have those problems.

should not do it with the first stop .lol and should not have to get high qulaity pads after you buy a brand new truck . lol just a bad job done on breaks with cheap parts with silverados .

Its not the first car that has done it with me. I had a Ford Ranger that was worse. None of them were brake jobs done by me either

Mine has done it when cold or after a rain since new. Just a side effect of the rear drums. Not hurting anything.

I just find it annoying when stoping buy a busy cross walk on a cold winter day and you have like 5 people looking at you on your first stop . With most of them thinking he needs new breaks . Guess i am just self consensus .

My rear are the ones that do it, I have checked them and they have plenty of pad. I think its the nature of drum breaks and what material the pad is. I bet a real high quality pad would not do it.I Mean shoe

Put some synthetic high temp brake grease on the back of the pads and sliders. The noise is caused by the movement/vibration and moisture of of the caliper and the backing of the pads. It worked like a charm for me.

I have 2011 with 4 disc. Mine do that too on the first time using the brakes. When the truck has sat for awhile. I know what you mean by embarrassing as it is loud as hell!!! I have just 8000 miles on her.. I need to get it in for a few other things as well...

Perfectly normal. Cleaning out any excessive brake dust in the rear drums can help some but after the dust comes back from normal wear, you'll be back to the same thing.
