For those of you with lifted trucks, what are you carrying around on the trail to jack the truck off the ground in case you get a flat and have to swap a tire? Looks like most of the trail jacks would tear up the rocker panels.....what are you guys using? Thanks,

Well I'm not a serious off roader so I'm not an authority. However I have a few friends that do serious off roading & they use tractor jacks (trail jacks) & most of them have heavy duty bumpers so they use the bumper for the jack point. Also have seen people mount a plate that bolts in place of recovery hooks or uses the receiver on the rear to jack on. If you have an Off Road shop anywhere near by I'd talk to them for other possible suggestions.

I doubt anybody on here with a lift and 35" are offroading. Maybe some light trail use but nothing serious. Most are parking lot queens.

I tackled some decent rocky trails and all I could think about is how bad it was going to suck if I have to walk 5 miles outta here to get help. No cell phone reception in the national forest either.

Get you a hi lift jack it will lift it up no prob. I got one for my truck and it will lift, pry, and winch

I used to have a tacoma that I used for rock crawling and all around 4wheeling. Like the guys said a hi-lift is a good option if you have a place to lift. Generally speaking unless you have a good offroad front or rear bumper and or rock sliders it's nearly impossible since there is no real place to lift from. I had a hi-lift and used once on someone elses rig, but another option that I had as a backup is go to walmart and buy a large bottle jack and place it under the axle tube for which ever side you are fixing or under any solid part on the front. I always carried chocking blocks and a 2x4 and a 4x4 (only about 6" in length or so) to build a stable ground and or lift the jack up higher if need be. I even had a buddy weld a broader plate similar to whats used or regular car jacks on my bottle jack just to provide a little more surface area on where i was lifting just for a piece of mindj :ughdance: . Anyway hope this gave you some ideas.

Wait, are you talking about rock crawling in an IFS truck with 35s? Dont most people use SFA trucks on at least 40s?

Not necessarily. I use to rock crawl in an IFS tacoma with 33's, granted it was more difficult for me and couldn't get into some of the more technical area's, a lot of guys run 35's. Of course if you have the money to throw at a SFA and some 40's just for a trail rig and not something that's drive able and street legal then yes that would be the preferred setup.
