07 vortec max Bent Valves

Well about 4 month ago I was towing a box trailer about a 5000 lb load when all of the sudden my truck started flashing the check stabilatrak and check engine lights came on. When this happened the truck went in to a power down mode and i could barely get off the highway. There was also a noise, sounded like beer cans tied to the drive shaft. I Thought I dropped the drive shaft the noise was so bad. When I took it to the dealer they told me I lost compression in one cylinder and that I bent two valves. Now I have a mechanical background and know that the valves must have slapped the piston to bend. What I don't know, is why this happened. I never lost RPM so Im sure I didn't float any valves.I asked the dealer and at first they told me we have never seen this before on this engine. They fixed it under warrantee but the problem I have is, what if this happens after the truck is out of warrantee. I contacted chevy and asked if they would cover this problem if it happened again and they told me we already fixed it and we wont cover that problem if it is out of warrantee. I cant believe what horrible customer service Chevy has. The dealer ended up telling me I probably had a bad bunch of fuel which didn't lube the valves properly. This pissed me off even more. Now when I tow I get a rattling noise that sounds like it did before the valves bent when the truck is under a load. Chevy tells me this is normal. Do any of you guys have this problem and do you guys have any advice on how to deal with Chevy? Any info would be great.

My dad tows heavy with his 08 V-Max and there is no noise like you describe under load......It makes me thing that there was some other damage done to your engine if yo uare still getting the similar noise after they made repairs. I would press the issue (try talking to different dealers if you have to) and have ir repaired properly before your warranty runs out and you have to pay out of pockey for a rebuild..........Does your truck have AFM?

yes it does have afm. I have been to multiple dealers and talked to corporate chevy and cant get anywhere. Im to the point of selling it as i don't trust it. I mean you spend 42000 on a truck and cant trust it. Chevy needs to step up and do something about this.

I don't know what to tell you. This should def. be covered under the power train warranty. With that said, I towed alot with my previous vmax and never had an issue. GM should def. stand behind this.

The 6.2L run circles around the 6.0L It's a big difference.

My previous Vmax had the NHT max trailer package with 4.10 gears. One of the biggest advantages I feel is the 6-speed trans. Having the NHT max trailer package with the 3.73's, 6.2L and the 6-speed, it's a beast.

My 5.3 while towing NEVER rattles. Your engine should never, ever, "rattle". My 5.3 has 128k on it and is smooth as silk loaded or unloaded. It does not have the AFM. I wonder if you had a lifter stick while under load.

The rattling you're hearing is probably detonation (spark knock). You've either got some very bad gas with too low octane rating or your ECM isn't detecting the detonation properly and retarding the timing as it should be. This may have also caused the bent valves. Or the bad gas they're referring to caused the bent valves and detonation.

This seems like any other automotive company. When the warranty period ends and something breaks it's your responsibility to pay to get it fixed. You stated they fixed the bent valve issue under warranty and got your truck running again.. The issues you have now with the rattle sounds like another problem. I'm all for getting things fixed when covered by warranty but, I know when it ends the costs to fix things are on my dime.

The rattling ain't normal, reproduce and get a tech to ride with you!

Yeah man I hear ya but really, after warrenty you'd be on your own. Not sure if you bought it new but if you did it doesn't mean the dealer has to fix it forever, shit happens. You might find other brands (ford dodge) would give you the same answer, we won't fix it out of warrenty. That's life!

The excuses of bad fuel and what not is just the kind of garbage they will say so you won't think your truck is junk. Im sure you'll be ok now, and if not well that's just how it goes!

Some people blow transmissions and engines a few miles/km out of warrenty of course they should not be covered GM is trying to make a profit, like any normal company would!
