Any clue identifying this rubber piece?

I had a new windshield installed in my 02 Silverado the other day and found this in the engine compartment the following day. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

Looks like one of the covers for a seat leg.

Wait.

No it doesn't. The second pic just appeared.

It was laying in the engine compartment the day after the windshield installation. I think it came from underneath the cowl panel due to some other mistakes those jokers made installing the glass but I'm not sure. I know it wasn't there before they got their hands on the truck though.

I asked the people at the glass place but they were clueless.....it looks familiar to me but I just can't place the darn thing. I'm hoping someone on the forum will come up with the answer. Thanks guys.

It's part of the water drain control that is located in the engine compartment. The part you took a picture of is the lower part and it originally was connected to the upper part. It swings and lets water out. I have had several break off just like yours. Open your hood and look under the hood spring and you'll see it. Here is a picture of a complete one.

It took me a while to figure it out the first time, too. What I still am not sure of is why it is needed. I have never been able to find a complete one in the junk yard. But, the truck runs fine without it. :D

It's actually known as a valve assembly, GM part # 15713205, and it can be had for about 7 bucks. I appreciate you helping me figure out what the heck the thing is very much.

It also helps to equalize pressure in the truck when the door is closed. As the door is closed air pressure goes up and this lets it escape, they are on cars and trucks.
