Getting BB Tune, but truck needs Tune-up 1st

Not sure if this is a tune question or a maintenance question, but Im sure a Mod. can change it if its wrong.

 

 

OK, Im finally gonna get a BB tune on my 05 Z71 5.3, 4spd. But, the truck is just about to roll over 100K miles. So, I was wondering what I needed to do before going to the BB Houston meet to have the tune done. Justin said to clean the MAF, and I was thinking about changing the plugs. Im also planning on an oil change and maybe a Seafoam treatment before I go.

 

I know there are lots of threads on here about what to change at 100K, but Im only worried about what I need to change before my tuning session. If it wont affect my tune, I can wait until I get back home. What would you guys do, or not do, before the tune. I want to get the most accurate tune possible.

 

Would changing any of that affect the effectiveness of my tune?

Personally I would see what Justin at BB has to say. He's the expert at what he does so he'll be able to tell you if not tuning it up will affect the tune.

I did ask him. The only thing he said was to clean the MAF and fill the truck with whatever octane fuel I want to tune for. I guess Ill chekc back with him to make sure that all I need.

I'd do plugs, top engine clean (seafoam through the pcv/booster hose), fuel injector clean, make sure I have a clean air filter and full tank of fresh fuel in the octane that the tune would be made for.

 

Of course, I'm a stickler for doing top engine/injector cleans/flushes every year no matter what the mileage so.......... ??

 

At 100k the only thing the engine needs, by the book, is plugs. If you've never had a top engine/injector clean

done, I'd HIGHLY recommend it. It's worth every penny in my book.

If it was me...

 

Clean the MAF sensor with either MAF cleaner or a good electrical contact cleaner, change the plugs, wires, clean or replace your air filter.

Im pretty sure I can do that.

 

My only concerns are that if I clean the engine and replace some fluids that it may change the effects of my tune. Im sure that the fluids wont have much effect if any, but I dont want the engine treatments to end up altering anything and making the tune less efficient.

 

Along with the MAF cleaning, and checking my air filter (New Airaid installed at around 90K) I may go ahead and seafoam it, change the oil, and then replace the plugs so I dont end up with a fouled plug and no replacement.

Any effect would be beneficial. The seafoam is a good idea to rid your engine of as much carbon as possible. Your tune is a month away. Any thing you add to your fule now will be long gone by then, unless you never drive your truck.

 

I'd do:

Plugs (wires if necessary)

clean TB and MAF

Seafoam treatment

Oil

 

Then take it out on the road and romp on it some to help clean it out

If I add Seafoam to the crank case, how long is a safe distance to drive with it in there?

 

Ive done a treatment before on another truck, but I cant remember how long it was suggested to run the oil with the seafoam in it.
