Piston Slap / Lifter Tap

I read that some of you are having piston slap problems on the 5.3L. Well, I have a 2010 Silverado and at 4k miles I had what sounded like piston slap, but was lifter noise on a cold start. It would only last about 1 minute. There is a TSB on this issue for the 5.3L with AFM on 2007 thru 2011. Get the dealer to fix it. There are new lifters that need to be installed. Just an fyi. My 2007 with 55000 miles on it does it for the couple minutes then quits even worse if it hasn't been started in a couple days. I did a little research on the issue and did find the TSB but not any kind of recall, if there's a fix for it I'd love to have mine fixed if I can get a dealer to do it.

More than likely it's the AFM lifters ticking. I had mine replaced under the 5yr/100K PT warranty. They remove the heads to get to all 16 lifters, 8 AFM lifters and 8 regular lifters. It's open heart surgury for sure but if you get a great master tech like I did, you'll have no worries when it's done.

Maybe I should pay a visit to my local dealer and see about getting the same thing done while I'm still under warranty. Thanks for the info.

Every GM truck I have ever owned had piston slap at start up, then stopped when truck was warm...Haven't noticed wit hthis one though.
