RC 2" level issues?

1800 for ball joints?

I know right. It was 850 for parts and 850 for labor. That price includes upper and lower control arms for both sides. I priced aftermarket parts and I can do it myself for around $250 + getting an alignment.

Holy crap. Where did you go? Grab one of those coupons for like 10% off repair from one of the dealers (maybe a chevy dealer???) around here.

Ryan,

The wife told me to trade it in and get a new truck. That's the best idea she's ever had!

BTW: Some friends of mine live in your neighborhood. Your truck looks good sittin in the driveway! :)

I went to the dealership yesterday to get some stuff done on the truck. While there they did their usual inspection and they noticed that my upper and lower ball joints on both sides were shot. I checked them myself and they are bad. I've had the RC 2" level on the truck for approx. 30,000 miles. I can't say 100% that it was caused by the level kit, but I bet it was. The cost for the dealer to fix is $1,800. I will be exploring alternative options.

Screw the stealership. IMO if I were you I'd pick up some nice uniball UCAs (Camburg, icon, TC, BMR) and install them yourself. Swapping out the UCAs is no harder than installing the leveling kit.

That was my plan until the wife told me to get a new truck. Who am I to argue with my lovely wife? So I picked up my new HD yesterday.

Looks like you lucked out :) I want a diesel!!!

The diesel would've definitely been cool, but $7,000 extra is a lot to spend for something I don't really need. (one could argue that I don't really NEED a new truck) ...damn, shoulda got a diesel.

i spoke with one of the companies that makes the uniball UCAs. sure they're nice but they told me that they usually get about 40,000 to 50,000 miles out of them. and even faster if you offroad. balljoints have the rubber seal around them to protect the critical joint from dirt and water which a uniball design is exposed to.

really depends on your specific application and what you use the truck for IMO.

The install is pretty easy. From prep to cleanup it took me about an hour. I found a video on Youtube with some shortcuts. They don't totally disconnect the ball joints or other bolts/nuts. I did it that way and it worked out just fine.
