What will you do????

Don't kid yourself. It will be a huge struggle for this economy if it goes to $5. If you have any doubt, you should step out of your bubble once in awhile.

Food and water are the essentials that EVERYONE needs. What does it take to get those things to each and every person? Fuel, period.

What will I do? Drive even less. The only cars that pass my house lately are people leaving at 4am to go to work and a few county workers driving around. There used to be $80K set ups of pickups with boats in summer, and pickups with fish houses in winter that drove by here every few minutes to get to the lakes. There used to be groups of snowmobilers that would come by that I swear had 12K stuck in their sleds. It just isn't happening anymore.

It definitely effects everything from your ride to work to how much groceries will cost. Tires have continually been going up since 07/08 based on oil & rubber shortage. At least that was the story.

I know this, the regulations that have been & are in place would not have allowed this country to be built. Those same regulations are what strangle us now & will continue to do so until the people demand a change.

That's a good question, and something to think about. I don't think $5 per gallon will affect how much or what I drive. If needed to I would cut back elsewhere. I don't know how much fuel would have to cost for me to purchase an economy car. I just do not like driving a small vehicle unless it is a sports/muscle/pony car.

It has more of an effect on how I drive then how much/what I drive. I am already paying about 4.82$ a gallon anyway while I am close to home and 5.10 when for the truck when I drive out of town to go snowmobiling, then about 5.50 a gallon for my sled's gas! Higher prices will not effect my driving.

I have an 18 Mile Round Trip to work so theres no way Im selling my truck. If we go somewhere long we take her Cruze anyhow. I still might get a cheap car to drive on trips when we do go somewhere just to keep miles off of the Cruze since she has a decent size drive to work.

I only fill up about once every two weeks, but I have been entertaining the idea of getting a motorcycle to drive to work.

You can set my truck on fire and roll it down a hill, but I still wouldn't trade it for a ....

Pickup man eh.

Speculators make this claim all the time. I'll deal with it. I bought the truck last year knowing $5/gal gas could be a reality. Canada already pays somewhere around $5/gallon and they've managed to survive.

alberta its about 99.9 a liter not sure what that converts to but that is cheap compared to the rest of canada

Lol...I remember when it came down a bit then. This morning when I filled up my work truck to head to work the fuel was $1.25/L...1.35 for supreme..it's been $1.40 down home out east now for awhile. Weve been paying $5 gallon gas for along time already. Americans better prepare cuz it's only gonna get more expensive for them too...I work in the actual place where 1.7million barrells of oil a day are produced and I STILL pay 1.25 LOL

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
