I will stil drive my Duramax! It is paid for and only has 31k miles on it... It is way cheaper to keep it and drive it than it would be to trade it! Maybe I will be a little less concerned about driving the Bimmer and will drive it a little more but no way am I getting rid of my truck!

Speculators make this claim all the time. I'll deal with it. I bought the truck last year knowing $5/gal gas could be a reality. Canada already pays somewhere around $5/gallon and they've managed to survive.

Wow I haven't seen gas under $1/liter in Canada in quite some time. Granted I'm almost always in the more expensive parts of town when I visit (universities mostly) so that does throw things off a bit. 4 liters is about 1 US gallon and our currency is still hovering around parity last time I looked so call it $4/gallon. I paid $3.59/gal (so a bit shy of 90 cents/liter) this afternoon and that was one of the more expensive stations. The rest in the area are still in the $3.4x/gal range but I had been wicked busy all afternoon and just wanted to gas up and get home so I stopped at the first place I came to.

 

I looked up alberta gas and it ranges from 99.9 to like 1.30 in alberta . Yea my dad was telling me gas is cheaper in hawaii than it is in canada lol .

1.22 thismorning a liter here in Ottawa. But I just budget for gas and I'm happy. A tank last me almost 2 weeks so 110 bucks every 2 weeks isnt that bad.

Don't kid yourself. It will be a huge struggle for this economy if it goes to $5. If you have any doubt, you should step out of your bubble once in awhile.

What will I do? Drive even less. The only cars that pass my house lately are people leaving at 4am to go to work and a few county workers driving around. There used to be $80K set ups of pickups with boats in summer, and pickups with fish houses in winter that drove by here every few minutes to get to the lakes. There used to be groups of snowmobilers that would come by that I swear had 12K stuck in their sleds. It just isn't happening anymore.

Yea when gas goes up everything becomes more expensive. Things in Canada are about 15% up 60% more expensive in Canada then in the USA for products . (I dont believe that is just based on fuel ) but the USA is in tough shape and its hurting Canada and personally I think something is going to fall apart . I dont see how people can live when the average house is like 300000 thousand and gas prices are high its more expensive to buy a vehicle and getting a job is becoming harder and harder.

The reason why I live in Alberta and not BC is because the job market is so much brighter and the cost of living is cheaper.

Drive the same ol' 2~3k miles/yr/vehicle we do now. Not that much difference in mpg between the Traverse and Silverado.

Same as I do now. Drive the truck when I need to and take the Sunfire to work all week.

Back in 2006 I sold my 02 Silverado that only had 40,000 miles on it for an 06 Honda Civic because gas was reaching $2.00 a gallon. I put over 70,000 miles on that car and loved the gas mileage of around 36mpg. However, as I would be driving down the road looking at the pickups going down the road, I longed for another Siverado.

Knowing that the fuel mileage was not good, but the ride was a lot smoother than most cars, I opted to go back to the Silverado.

On Jan. 1, 2009, I bought my 09 Siverado and I love it. I would drive it more if it weren't for the fuel prices, but I plan on keeping it, and it being my last vehicle, unless I get the urge to buy an cool looking 60's Chevelle.

I am feeling the crunch of the fuel prices, but most of the time I would ride my 08 Harley Softail Custom or my 05 Honda Goldwing which gives me around 32mpg.

Since I now have sold the Harley, I mostly ride the Goldwing and twice a week I carpool with my wife in her car.

Gas being $3.99 a gallon today is going to be hitting home soon when other businesses start raising their prices due to their cost increase of fuel.

You got to do what you got to do, but I will really have to be desperate to sell my Silverado.

I will continue to piss and moan about gas prices and continue to drive my 2002 F150 that is paid for. I only have to fill up once every 2 1/2 weeks.. all my miles are short and on interstate. Nothing else to do..

I don't drive much, so I will continue driving the same as before. Maybe ride my motorbike more often.

Yup ....we are $1.18 a liter here. What I do is drive my 1.8 ltr old Volvo to work and whenever I can, and use my wife's Honda Fit (50 mpg!) also as much as possible. The truck is reserved for towing and play when needed. Sound like a lot of vehicles, but the Fit is a great future bet, and the Volvo is just cheap to insure and run, and it saves wear and tear on the SILVERADO.

Jealous of the $.99. Tossed a cool $100 in the truck the other day. 73L @ 1.37/L. It is what it is though.

Fortunately I can take the company truck home.

 

I save about $60 a day not driving my truck to work and back home. And the 60 bucks are only a rough idea. Maybe it is more.

 

One can't just calculate the fuel the truck will need.

I'm trying to break down all the costs I have for the truck (except payments) like oil change, new tires, repairs, insurance, average annual millage, loss of value etc. to 1 km.

 

Right now I'm at about $1 for 1km. And counting...
