Left side lower than right side in front . Dealer said it was normal.

Ok I just remember this but like 2 years ago i was at my parents for school break and I parked in there garage. My mom is like amazing with porportions and angles and things just siting level like if a picture is level.

 

Well she looks at my truck and says the drivers side is closer to the tire than the passanger side. Dad and I take a measureing tape and sure enough it is (dont remember the measurement ) It was not that big.

 

So I had to do fire wood with my dad and my mom took my truck down to the dealer . They said it was a normal thing and it is just how they are.

My dad made a little joke and said you will just have to have a fat girl friend sitting in the passager side .

 

Then a few days later I went comerical fishing again for 4 months.

 

I am assuming the driver side is a bit heavyier but dont think this should be the norm .

 

Now my question is with the gm 800s on level ground like in a garage or somthing . If you measre both sides with a measureing tape from the tire to the sheet metal are they the same or is one side a little bit off ?

 

Shocks are still good btw

 

I would of not notice it if my mom did not point it out .

its called the chevy lean... almost all GMT800's you look at have it. can be on either side

I wonder why there is a lean to one side or the other ? All I can think of is just not putting the truck together perfectly ?

im not sure why there is a lean but i tried to fix it, and i did by cranking my torsion bar up on the side it was low but when i cranked it up it was fully extended when it was level and the other side was still low so i put it back

generally the trucks lean to the left a little. most of the time is it because of the fuel tank (on the left side) and your own weight on the left side. for the GMT800s, most of the actual components are on the left side of the centerline: battery/relays/fusebox (underhood)/master brake cylinder/washer fluid reservoir/driver control switches (in door)/fuel tank/emissions box. the right side generally has the a/c condensor/secondary fusebox (in dash) and jack (in the rear of cab). these are generally the items as they are installed in an 800. the 900s are different.

Just about everyone I can remember of the 800 and 900s all had or do have a driver side lean. It seems to progress with spring fatique over time. Keep in mind the Driver and fuel tank are on that side, so you can almost expect that the springs on that side are always under more stress then the springs on the right side are under.

Not sure whats up with the HDs, but this has been very common with the 1/2 tons.

The ones I have had in our business fleet and personal trucks seems to set near level when new and progress over time to sag more and more on the left front.

It is pretty common.

 

My GMT-800 Tahoe and my GMT-400 Sierra both leaned to the left a little.

 

Gasoline is roughly 7.5 LBS a gallon so 10 to 20 gallons weighs about 75 to 150 LBS.

 

That will cause a slight sag over time.

may be irrelevant , but most of us prefer to take a right turn rather than a left turn when pulling out of somewhere, for traffic concerns. that stacked with the extra weight on the drivers side?

It was "thought out" for the assembly line.

 

I always thought that all the designers did their work in their own little office, with little to no communication between the offices. What else could be the reason for having to pull the intake just to get at a PCV valve?

 

You mentioned that your shocks were good, shocks do not set ride height, they are meant to control spring oscillation. Assuming you are not running air shocks.

 

I have seen vehicles come in with a lean to one side, and just loosening the mounting bolts that are rubber isolated, lower the vehicle to the ground, bounce the vehicle up and down, back the vehicle out of the shop, and bring it right back in(to correctly get all the bushing and mounts in a natural position). Tighten the mounting bolts to spec. To be completely even, you cannot put the vehicle back on the hoist before re-torqueing all the bolts you loosened.

You can make a change of 1/2 inch to an inch doing it this way. Has to do with the bushings being loaded incorrectly.

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.

    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
