i have a 2001 2500hd and the mirrors have the defrost symbol on them and i belive you press the rear window defroster to turn them on. are they supposed to light up when they are on? they dont seem to be working. i am not sure if my truck came with them or if they were swapped and were not originaly wired in the truck. also is there a fuse for them? the rear defroster works any help would be appreciated thanks.

My 01 and 04 gmt-800s both had heated mirrors and rear defrost.

There was NO defrost symbol on either trucks mirrors.

The mirrors heated along with the rear defrost when the button was pushed.

The button was NOT lighted when turned on.

There is only a small heating patch on the rear of the mirrors.

GM had many mirror failures or the mirrors cracked and quit heating.

Both my trucks had the mirrors replaced with those issues.

Does your truck have the VYU plow prep pkg?

If so then you have the heated mirrors and rear defrost as its part of the

VYU plow prep. pkg.

Check your RPO codes.

thanks for the info, i dont have that code on my truck so maybe someone had replaced them ant one point and the truck did nt come heated anyway the truck was sold new in texas so the chances of it beeing a plow setup from factory are pretty slim do you know of any other way to check is there a certain # of wires in the harness to the mirror ?

Since you have DL-8s and the rear defrost you prob. do have the heated mirrors.

You could pop the mirror glass out and check the wires for power.
