Anybody comment on 6" lift ride quality, before and after?

I'm pretty sure that a custom ecm/tcm cal from Blackbear Performance would not only correct your soon to be incorrect speedometer due to the huge tire size change, but also give you a little more power from the engine and better shifting from the trans as well. All for less than swapping out a set of ring and pinions. And this, is coming from the guy that ALWAYS changes his gear's when he installs big tires on a lifted truck but considering that you're just going to cruise it like a normal truck, I wouldn't want to open the diff's either, to be honest.

When you say custom ECM , do I take mine out and have them reflash it? I was also wondering about the process required to recalibrate for correct MPH. I havent called my buddy at my local chevy dealer yet, but I take it that you need a factory scan tool, or can I use my Modis?

My experience is that dealers cant reprogram for 35 because GM doesn't indorse that size tire on our trucks. Blackbear tune would be the best option for extra ponies and recal your speedo.

Like it has been mentioned, and I mentioned it in my post, Blackbear performance or another aftermarket company would have to be called in to have your ecm/tcm calibrations changed to reflect the tire size change not only to correct your speedometer but add a custom tune in with that and you'll have a sizable enough difference to not have to worry about a gear swap if the truck is just going to pound the pavement.

I agree that an aftermarket tune is necessary, but there is no way any tune out there will compensate for a grossly under geared truck. Before I regeared, my tuned truck was a dog.

That is your truck and your opinion. I share the same opinion as you, if it were my truck (already stated that a few posts back even) but if he's just going for looks, I'd have the ecm/tcm programming changed for the tire size, because it really should be done no matter what anyway, along with parameters optimised a bit for the larger tires and let it be. Save the extra $600-1000 that he was going to spend for gears, for fuel.

In all honesty, he really is just going from a 32.5 to a 35" tall tire. While that is a change it certainly isn't like going from stock to say a 38 or 40" tire. One to two gear sizes of a jump is all he'd really need anyway. Anything over 4.10 would be a waste with a 6l80E trans already on board.
