I thought I could usually tell the newer models Sierra verses a Silverado from the rear by the tail lights.

The Sierra has the backup lights at the bottom while the Silverado has the backup light in the middle.

Yesterday, driving down the road, I came up on a Sierra 3500HD dually and noticed that it had the same tail lights as my Silverado with the backup lights in the middle.

What is going on? Was I mistaken? Maybe it was an earlier version, say 07?

It must be a dually thing. Took a quick look at auto trader and 07-12 dually trucks have the light in the center. However the single real wheel 3500's are just like every other Sierra with the light on the bottom.

That's just like how the 800-series dually Chevys never got the updated tails in 2003-07 either.
