k5 running like crap

my k5 sounds bad it has such low idle that it dies out sometimes and when i try an mash on the gas pedal to burn tires it bogs out like its drowing or something...an the mpg has dramatically decreased

Air Filter clogged, Fuel Filter plugged, Timing off

If carburated...is the choke stuck partially closed?

 

Just a few ideas/guesses.

I had the exact same problems last year with my old '83 Bronco. The timing was off real bad. Once I took a timing light to it, it ran like new.

check to see if it out of tune. Maybe try changing the plugs. also try checking the timing.

Could be a vacum leak

Stuck EGR valve. Remove, throw as far away as you can, install block off plate in its place.

i replaced the plugs and wires it ran ok for a few days but it still had low idle.i replaced the inline filter thats inside the carb an the air filter still doin it

Like said above check timing,vacuum leaks,carb probably needs a rebuild or a good tuning.

theres an 87 (i think) k5 at the local junkyard can i go there an pull a carb or does it have to be precisely tuned?

87 was the first year for TBI.

Fix your leaking fuel pump first before trying too many other band-aids.
