Ok, I posted this story in another thread and Chevy 4x4 gave me some ideas but they didn't work.

Anyway, I have a debugged version of XP on my laptop.  It is a network version as I set up a PW for it.  When I say "Debugged" I mean I don't have to register it on every PC in order for it to work.

Anyway, I was using it to montior the PCM on my mother's car and to clear an SES light.  After I was done, I went back into the house and plugged the laptop into a wall outlet in the kitchen that I didn't know was a switchable outlet.  Needless to say, my mother when done in the kitchen, turned the switch off.  After a few hours when I left, the PC had died due to a drained battery.  I didn't think anything of it at this time until I re-booted it the next time I needed to monitor a PCM.  Well, thanks to it dieing on me, it won't let me in now.

When I type my PW in, it gives me this "did you forget your password" error and won't let me in.

HELP!!!!!  I need this as I can't take TechII's home with me all the time.

Did you try Administrator yet?

Administrator should not have a password as a default.

Debugged version. I haven't heard of that. Did you ever get a screen ttelling you that you have "x" amount of days left until you activate it?

Need some more info.

Does everything start up "normally"?

Try booting in Safe Mode, this should by-pass the password screen. To boot to Safe Mode...start and hold down the delete key. May have to try it a couple times. If that doesn't work try the F8 or F10 key. Keep holding the key till you get a sceen asking you to select how you want to boot.

Cool Bass, I'll try the safe mode boot.  I tried a few ways but couldn't get it to do it.  I also tried the administrator PW but it won't fit into the screen where I enter it.  I also tried Admin to see if that'd do it, but to no avail.

That's what he debugged for me, I don't have to worry about that 30 day thing.  :D

Usually, if you aren't the one who installed the OS, the person who does has a username/password that gets them into it. Usually, they rename the administrator account. Are you the one who installed the OS and other software on it?

I dont think the safe mode boot will work...shouldnt make a difference.  Not to sound stupid (hey Newbie, why stop now?) but did you try to just click through the password without entering ANYTHING?
