My truck started stalling last week. It does it when it is warm and I am coming to a stop (dangerous when you are trying to stop adn you lose steering and brakes). The first time it started right back up and ran fine for a few days. The second time it died and took about 10 tries to start. Then it died about 2 miles after that and would not restart. I let it sit for a couple days and it started right up. I am thinking it is a fuel issue. The fuel system is reading 58 psi with the truck off / key on, and about 56 with the truck running. when the fuel pump is going out, does it just go out, or will it work intermitantly? I am also thinking it could be a vacuum issue; any ideas of what to check on that?

Thanks for your help and ideas!

Don't know about vacuum problems but what about a possible bad fuel filter? After 11 years (and dependent on miles) your filter could be plugged up.

Not entirely certain. I just remember working on my own car years ago (more than I care to remember now) when it would do almost exact same thing. Put a new filter in it and it ran like a champ the remainder of the time I owned it. Another possibility is that you might of picked up some crud in your tank too. Fuel line starts pulling junk off bottom of the tank and restricts the flow then falls back after being shut down? I'd still take a look in/around that area just to be sure. Never know what's going into your tank..for sure.

Common things being common, on a truck if that age with original fuel pump and reasonably new filter, it is probably fuel pump.

I've heard a failing fuel pump described the way you have.

Thanks everyone. It is not throwing any codes. I am going to drive it around today until it dies and then check the pressure. Fuel filter is easy enough. i will start with that.

Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Just drove it around the block and it died again. was not stopping this time..driving normally. Checked the fuel pressure and it is reading normal. it doesn't sputter or lose power; it just shuts off. all guages still work. thinking it is electrical but no codes?????

ECM maybe??

Check all of your ingnition fuses, i had a similar problem, and one of my ignition fuses was a little burnt but it still connected a little bit so it would not happen all of the time

Fixed it. It was the crankshaft posision sensor. It only threw the code when the truck died. I changed the sensor; so far, no check engine light. We will see if i have to do the relearn. Thanks for everyones help.
