Bought a new Yukon

Well, I couldn't resist GM's 0% financing offer, so I bought a new 2003 Yukon SLT 4x4 in Carbon Metallic.  I am picking it up from a dealer about 300 miles from my house.  What are the rules of thumb for breaking in a new truck?  Especially since so much highway driving will be invloved on the first day.

I've heard many theories on break in rules, but I plan on keeping speed below 60 mph, keeping the tach below 3000 rpm, and not driving more than 10 miles or so at the same speed.

What am I missing?  Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you know what you are doing.  I might take an exit and get right back on every now and then.  That way, you give the brakes a little work out as well as run through the gears getting back up to speed again.  I don't think it'll matter but, I bought mine 75 miles from home and that's what I did.

No towing or going over 55 for the first 500 miles - it's in the manual.

BTW - Congrats on the new truck!!!

drive it like you stole it--have done this on every thing bought new--never had any problems with any of them and i have bought several new ones throughout my 40 years --just my opinion   :jester:  :smash:  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:

Actually, one time I was reading a PDF from and GM Hi-po engine builder company, on how to break in their engines. They sai that short high bursts are good for the engine, and helps break in the springs/valve train faster to help it last longer.
