What goes/went here? Underhood

Bought my truck used. Anyone tell me possibly what would have been mounted in these locations or what they're used for?

The first one normally has a ground strap. Not sure about the second one.

Actually the first pic is where GM used to mount a light. Remember those days?

 

The second pic looks like that hole is supposed to be there ... but what could possibly be mounted there I have no idea. Paint came off somehow ....

How many times has your hood been removed? I ask because your mount bolts have been torqued a few times by the looks of them.

 

I agree with others the first one is a ground strap mount location. The second one usually has a dust cap on if I recall, looks like it came loose and took some paint before falling off.

Personally Ive never had the hood off. Only bought the truck 3 months ago.

 

So based on this info, good guess that the hood was removed at some point and the ground strap not replaced? hmm

clean car fax? look for paint lines on fenders...

I just checked out my '07 new body, and I have an '04 here for a water pump - here's both. Looks like that hole is factory. The strap is definitely missing as others have pointed out. Small pic is 04, bigger pic 07:
