I own a 2009 GMC Sierra SL Nevada Edition which I purchased at the beginning of 2012. When the truck was purchased it had little to no rust on the chassis. I had the truck rust sprayed for the 2012 winter. Now I have seen more rust then I want to on my chassis, I don't know if the garage did a bad job or the spray was shit. I live in Ontario, Canada where they are generous with spraying salt on roads. My question is what methods are the best to clean and prevent rust?

I've seen a lot of people on here recommend it also. I'm a little hesitant on doing this myself since I have never done this. If someone can advice me on using this product. How should I/ my chassis be prepared for the coating? Should the chassis only be sprayed and what should be avoided?

Mines a 08 and I only have a few spots of rusting on the underside, the only wear spots is when the truck gets lifted twice a year to swap winter/summer wheels on. I go through the entire underside with just some anti rust stop spray paint followed by this spray/grease lubricant that acts as a water barrier I get from farm and fleet.

I have read up on this product. Wayoyl is the name of product.

Used mainly in Europe.

It is quite an expensive procedure. And I think it requires an annual inspection from vendor.

Also.

I live in hill and mountain country. And yes, quite a bit of salt is used in winter. Seems almost every other day a dusting of snow and the salt trucks make their rounds.

I noticed on my new 2008 GMC Sierra that many undercarriage metal parts were showing signs of surface rust the first year.

Same on my 2010 Chevrolet Colorado. Metal clips/clamps, leaf springs, and suspension parts with noticeable rust after one winter.

On all of my older vehicles I have each hot oil undercoated. The whole bottom of vehicle is sprayed with oil. Holes are drilled (then plugged with a plastic removable caps) and oil is sprayed in to the cavities of doors and such. I was told once that it is chainsaw bar and chain oil - new. It is a messy process but very effective. Cost around US $85.00 and is done annually by a professional shop with lift. This process is completely legal in my state and the DES monitors and inspects each shop. The car or truck will leak the sprayed on oil for weeks afterwards - so not good for paved driveways and nice concrete garage floors. The process is effective as my 20 year old Mercury Grand Marquis is still rust free at 180,000 miles. I am a tad hesitant to do this on a new car or truck. Don't know if it would affect the GM warranty.

I don't see why it would.

I for one don't want to do the work myself and get the driveway dirty. One of the problems is that I can't find a local shop that does the undercoating in Ottawa, Ontario. Another thing is that should the factory wax be scrapped of before the undercoat is put on and does the shop do this kind of thing.

Using the spray on grease it takes me about an hour or so to do the whole underside. It doesn't drip as long as you don't spray it on heavy.
