Just curious....Has anyone else driving an 800 series experienced clearcoat peeling? About 6 months ago my 02 (which I purchased brand new) started peeling. It started as small circular spots and has blossomed into full fledge peeling. It's not over either since the small circular spots are everywhere....mainly around the edges of panels, etc. For the heck of it I contacted GM customer service to let them know what I thought about it....they did open a case and had me take it in to the local GM dealer. I'm sure you can imagine what the outcome was since it is a 10 year old truck. I took it to a very reputable body shop here and the owner said that he had never seen an 800 series truck peel. Anyone? In case anyone is wondering....it's Red.

I have seen it before on the GMT-800's many times. 10 years old being in the weather thing like that might happen. Sorry to say but most likely nothing a dealership can do for you.

Was the paint taken care of?.My 2001 Silverado had a peel start on the roof and it was washed every few days and taken care of. Must have been a bad spot from the factory or something. I sanded the roof all down resprayed it and it was like new.

Sold my 2003 Tahoe with just under 200k miles to my cousin within in the last year. The clearcoat and paint still look great.

I wasn't taken care of as well as it could have been but it definitely wasn't neglected. The truck was outside in the elements the majority of it's life. I was just curious as to how many people had this issue. The 89 I had previous to this truck was as old as well but never had any paint issues. I personally think things are just getting cheaper as time goes by.

the GMT800's had great paint. my 2001 with about 115k never garaged a day in its life still has 0 peeling or fade. has a lot of dings and scratches now though. had an 03 suburban with 180k, no fade or peeling. my 03 silvy dosent have any fade or peeling either.

maybe since your in louisiana and its always hot or warm and the suns out a lot more there. lots of overcast days in PA and lots of snow

I doubt it's the state I live in since there are tons of 800 series trucks running around here without clearcoat issues.....I'm going to chalk it up to the environmentalist.
