if am general was smart they would start building civilian hummers to help make up for the lack of government orders- they have to keep building parts anyway so why not? one can dream.

cant really listen to the video right now, but that isnt an exposed radiator is it? it cant be...

Good concept. But lots of pitfalls. No dealerships to carry such. And that gets expensive.

AM General used to be part of AMC American Motors. The old postal jeeps were made by AM General.

AMC sold off this division before Chrysler purchased AMC.

Then GM got involved. And the rest is history.

Definately a tough looking vehicle......They should allow our military to test a few for a while and see how they hold up, in a non-combat zone of course.

Let just say that I am personlly involved in the testing already...

I am jealous..LOL!!!

Can you say how it handles certain terrain vs the older model or is it hush- hush still?..........man I would love to test one of those.

They are considered light in the world of mine resistant vehicles but still handle like a 18k pound beast. Been in test phases for two years now. Trying to weed out the unfit vehicles and make the right call for the troops in the future.

do you work at AM General? I went to their hmmwv off road driving course about a year and a half ago and it was awesome being able to push them to their limit and see what they are really capable of offroad. hoping this will be just the same. im also curious why they dont stick with the MATV.

Test and evaluation officer.

The MATV is too heavy to be considered for a light tactical replacement

sounds like a fun job. what is the weight difference? i went to an MRAP school and they were talking about how the whole reason for the tiny windows was to cut weight, if they went to that extreme and its still to heavy im curious to what else is going on. never did get a chance to put those to the test offroad like i have the old hmmwvs though.

so basically, the hmmwv was worthless in the middle east because it cant protect you from IEDs for shit. so the mrap family produces a vehicle that serves the same purpose of a hmmwv, but they opt for something that provides less protection to save weight? thats some bull shit. i will probably use the matv regardless if i ever am in another theater to need an armored truck, but still...
