Cooper ST Maxx, Anyone have reviews?

Simply what the title states, does anyone have a longer term review of this tire? I searched on here and through Google, nobody really has any reviews of the tire beyond the day they had them installed and the way they felt on the ride home. I have read they run big and I'm thinking this may be the perfect tire for my needs, didn't find it until the other day. Planning on a 265/70/17 which some people have said looks more like a 285 in person.

Thanks!

I've heard good things about them, but when the shop told me $250 a piece, I lost interest. Unless someone knows where to get em cheap?...

I think a few members on here have em

That's the same issue with me, I can get the Cooper ST tire in a 275/70/17 for cheaper than the 265/70/17 ST Maxx. They look awesome and people have claimed they run big but without more concrete reviews I may have to go with the older ST which has much respect.

I haven't heard much about them either, but I've seen a few sets in person...and they look great. Just keep in mind that they're all 10 ply...while the 275/70/17 ST is available in a 6 ply, I believe.

my uncle has them on his truck and is dissapointed in the amount of rock they throw. But other than that they seem to be good.

Yeah the 275 ST is a C rated with the 285 being D rated. I don't have any real big need for anything more than the 6 ply other than tread depths are usually deeper and D's and E's. That ST Maxx just looks mean as hell but I have never seen it in person in a 265.

I'm not a fan of a tire that throws rocks badly where I'm from. Most all of our county roads are chip and seal which is a slurry coat, lots of stones.

Many aggressive AT's will chuck rocks. Especially those little ones used when they oil & rock those country roads. I'm sure central IL is just like where you live. The deep tread, along with the medium lug spacing....makes an aggressive AT a bad choice for that. That's my only complaint about my BFG's. I would think the ST Max would be similar. If you don't mind the noise, I'd got with a grouchy looking mud terrain in the stock size, or that 275 we mentioned earlier....like the ST or even the STT (which looks mean as hell). Also, I've found that many 6 ply tires have the same tread depth as the D's and E's....it's just the P rated ones that have the lower tread depths.

Sorry guys, I was on vacation at the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa last week. I finally saw some ST Maxx tires in person and was not all that impressed, they look like a normal a/t from a distance and the sidewall has NOTHING on the STT. The 285/75/16's I saw on a gmt 900 HD did not look like they ran big at all, to be honest they looked like any other a/t on the market. Up close the tread pattern looked pretty nice and meaty, and I could see them performing well in mud, snow, and also on the road.

I ran 285/65/18 Trail Grapplers on my last truck and these ST Maxx tires had nothing on them, not even close. I have read that these will take the place of the STT's and if that is true Cooper is making a mistake. They look like a GREAT a/t tire but looks have nothing on the STT.

With all this said, I have decided to go with the Cooper ST's in a 275/70/17 and will post pics when I get them. Hopefully the end of this week or early next week.

Sure I can. I have been researching the ST Maxx for over 3 weeks now and I have read time after time how this tire will be taking the place of the STT. If that is the case then Cooper puts the ST Maxx in the same category as a hybrid a/t, m/t.

The ST Maxx is way more aggressive than any a/t I have ever seen, if they are only calling it an a/t then it is the most kickass one on the market. My point in the last post was that if they are going to replace the STT with this then it will become the least aggressive mud tire on the market.

EDIT: went back through some of my saved links and it seems the forums I've searched say it is replacing the ST and some say it is replacing the STT, then some written articles say it will replace both.

Let me clear this up, the ST Maxx is a killer A/T tire when compared to only A/T's. If we consider it a hybrid between an a/t and m/t then it is on the softer side of trail grapplers. I don't consider trail grapplers full blown mud tires, they are a hybrid too, that is why nitto has the mud grappler. If you don't see it from my side no hurt feelings.

UPDATE!

Last Friday, the 17th, I had a local tire shop install 275/70/17 Copper Discoverer ST's. My opinion is that they look extremely beefy for an AT tire, the ride is great, noise is not noticible yet, tread lugs are really deep on this tire.

I drove to Detroit last weekend on these and they handled well too. At 80 MPH on the interstate the tires felt stable, under control, and my MPG's by calculation barely dropped. We are talking half a MPG. I have attached some pictures for reference, sorry for the crappy cell pics. The GF has the digital in MI.
