Auto Door Lock Problems on '99

My 1999 Silverado door locks will not unlock when I put the truck back into park. I have to use the door button to unlock the truck. It automatically locks going down the road, just never unlocks.

not sure how a '99 programs, but maybe the program got changed or reset somehow. Try your '07 program, to see if it works. I think you can program unlock one door, all doors, when put in park, when key off, or not at all. Hopefully it's the program and not some computer doohickey. That is a word, right? :dunno:

Sounds like you to need to reprogram it. Here's some info to assist you. It's concerning a 2002 but I would think it would work the same on your 99.

The following is a list of available programming options:

All doors lock/Only the driver's door unlocks: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side once.

All doors lock/All doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side twice.

All doors lock/None of the doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side three times.

No doors lock/None of the doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel twice. This turns off the automatic door lock feature.

  1. Begin with the ignition in OFF. Then pull the turn signal/multifunction lever all the way toward you and hold it there while you perform the next step.
  2. Turn the key to RUN and OFF twice. Then, with the key in OFF, release the turn signal/multifunction lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock switch lock and unlock.
  3. You are now ready to program the automatic door locks. Select one of the following four programming options and follow the instructions. You will have 30 seconds to complete programming. If you exceed the 30 second limit, The locks will automatically lock and unlock to indicate that you have left the program mode. If this occurs, repeat the procedure beginning with step 1. You can exit the program mode any time by turning the ignition to RUN. If the LOCK/UNLOCK switches are not pressed while in the programming mode, the current LOCK/UNLOCK mode will not be modified.

If it were me I'd try disconnecting the battery.....either the BCM has an issue or it's not receiving all of the required inputs to put it into the program mode.

This is normal for 1999 models. I installed an aftermarket alarm for optional door lock/unlock functions.

Disconnected the battery and still no luck. I don't even care about auto lock. I just don't want it staying locked when I get out. It has become a real pain every time you get out having to unlock the doors manually.

Oh well....according to gm4yrs that's normal for a 99....my 02 is a bit different obviously.

The power door locks will also automatically lock when

the vehicle reaches 15 mph (24 km/h). To unlock the

doors, refer to the instructions listed previously. The

automatic locking feature can be disabled, if you prefer.

See your dealer for assistance.

Straight out of the owners manual for a 99 model.

My 2000 unlocks when I take the key out, not when it goes into park. Not sure if this can be changed but maybe it will help you.
