2010 Sierra Lifter Replacement after knock/tick

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I just got my truck back from the dealer. Had a tick/knock sound after starting, I had 8 lifters replaced, then about 7,000 km later it came back but worse. They replaced all 16 lifters.

Seems ok now, but they also gave me a tsb that says to expect approx. 1 L of oil loss over 3,200 km...

That seems like ALOT....

Anyways, just thought I'd share....

Thats bs...I'm seriously thinking about selling mine and buying a late 90's z71. They just dont make them like they used to.

I had all 16 lifters replaced a year ago and new pistons and rings installed this summer, so far so good. I can't believe they just didn't replace all the lifters at once on yours maxco. Is yours using oil?, what is the TSB # they gave you?

It was using oil when I brought it in last week.

I know the 98-02 LS1 Gen III engines were notorious (sp) for using a quart of oil every 3-4k miles. I know these engines have dis similar metals in the piston bores the block being aluminum, the pistorn sleeve being steel. I do not know if this is the cause of the oil usage. In the case of my 01 Z28 (Sara) it is probably due to the aggressive style of driving that I employ :)

My '00 was awesome. Like a rock. My '08, well, not so much. Nothing like putting down cardboard to get the drips....

Should there be a pic or video or something?

Yeah I closed the channel because of spam.....

I got a call and GM is sending a new motor.

Isn't it amazing that GM can tell you even after repair that it is going to use an unacceptable amount of oil before hand. Almost as amazing is the fact that even though they can't fix the defective engine, they continue to build them and sell them as if it is perfectly acceptable to be incompetent.

GM is slowly losing my loyalty and my confidence in their ability to build quality vehicles. My old 98 S-10 that I sold with 228,000 miles on her was a better quality build compared to my 2011 Silvy.

The biggest problem GM has with these trucks is in their attempt to create a truck with better fuel milage the put the AFM on them which has caused nothing but headaches.

People who install tuners turn them off and increase fuel mileage and performance. When more warranty is up I will do the same thing.

You know, we only hear more bad stories than good stories because people get mad enough to register and post about it. Where as the large majority who don't have problems don't even go on this forum.

Just sayin'

Well I did not come on here to complain. I came here for HELP. Personally, I would have preferred the dealer fix my issue but it was bad internal parts not GM's or my fault. The pistons were not built to spec according to GM's Rep who checked it himself.

So, If you read my post (missing video) I think I was asking for help or a suggestion from someone who may have had the same issue and what fixed it. Some have had the same issue but lifters and or an oil pump fixed it. I didn't get that lucky.

I was referring to your previous post of gm causing headaches with AFM.
