Well, I go out to start the truck today to run some errands, and it won't start.  Then I notice that the 'low fuel' light is ON and the fuel gauge reads empty. Hmmm...I know I had 3/4 of a tank when I parked last night.  Well, it's remotely possible someone syphoned me without alerting my dogs, so I put 3 gal in from a can in the garage. No joy, and it STILL reads empty with a low fuel light?. WTF? I also notice the RED OnStar trouble light on the mirror is on.  Hmmm....

 

So I think maybe something's up with the computer, and disconnect the battery for a few minutes.  Same indications.  OK, then I disconnect the primary AND aux batteries and leave them disconnected for an hour.  No change.

 

So I call up GM Roadside Assistance 1-800 number and they say it sounds like a problem with the theft deterent system.  Yah, I remember hearing that PASSLOCK disconnects the fuel supply. They tell me to leave the key in RUN for 20 minutes, then go to OFF without removing it to "reset the system."  I try that. No Joy.  Try it with the second key. Still nothing.

 

So now I'm stuck here 'till Monday when the local Dealership opens up (best they could offer). A $35K truck with less than 5,000 miles on it leaves me stranded. SH*T!

Oh, I forgot to add that the RANGE and AVE. FUEL ECONOMY on the DIC were "dashed out" (--- --.-) before I disconnected the battery.  The RANGE had been about 250 miles the night before.

Maybe the anti-theft system was triggered, or you have a problem in the BCM.  No matter what the problem is, I feel sorry for you having to have your new truck towed...

if the anti theft was triggered it will shut off your fuel system but i think its only for 10 min

Well, the local dealership "didn't get a chance to look at it" today, but they did tell me it started when they went to move it.  We went out to the truck and, sure enough, it started and the "OnStar" light wasn't RED anymore, so I decided to take it home and see if the gremlin is gone.  As soon as I get on the road I notice that ALL of the instruments are all pegged to the left (zero or minimum value), so I call the dealership back and they promise to look at it "first thing" tomorrow.  Stop by the gas station on the way home and, sure enough, it only takes 2 gallons to fill it.  Checked the fuses that would seem to involve the instrument panel when I got home and they look fine, so I hope they can get a code or something. Hopefully the saga ends tomorrow....

what you have is most likely a shorted Ing. switch on the column. I have seen this before.

That wouldn't be the theft system, because even though it kills the fuel supply it would still read full in the tank because the level in the tank is not affected by the fuel pump. I've triggered it countless times while installing my remote starter, so I know how the thing works in and out...

 

I've never heard anything like that before, sounds really weird. It does sound like an electrical system problem, but if it turns over and doesn't start that means the fuel pump wouldn't be running because there's gas in the tank, and gauges showing empty wouldn't magically make the fuel not burn in the engine.
