Stand alone transmission controller for 1994 K1500

Hello everybody, I am new to the forum and glad to be hear. Thank you for the opportunity to learn more about these trucks.

Now for my first question. I have a 1994 K1500 with the TBI fuel injected 350 and automatic transmission. I think the auto is a 4l60e, but I am not 100% sure. I recently rebuilt the motor as the original had approx 150K hard miles. During the rebuild, I put a performance cam in, mildly ported the heads and added long tube headers. The motor runs fairly good, but since the rebuild the gas mileage is horrible. Like 7-9 miles per gallon horrible. The exhaust pipes are also black on the inside. I think the modifications I did to the motor have screwed up the TBI fuel injection and the truck is running very rich and wasting fuel. The cam came from Comp, and they said it was mild enough to work with the stock computer and TBI.

I have a solution in mind. I rarely drive the truck. It is basically a farm/dog riding truck on the weekends, so I thought I would just remove the TBI fuel injection altogether and put a relatively small 4 barrel carb on it. I think I could get a carb to run cleaner, make more power and get way better mileage than the TBI fuel injection. The only problems is getting the stock 4l60e transmission to work with a carb on the motor. I was told I would need a stand alone controller for the transmission. I was wondering if anybody had done anything like this and if I could get some information on how to go about doing this project. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
