I recently bought a 99 sierra 1500 with a 5.3liter in it, its a really cool truck, (reg. cab, stepside, lifted), I bought it off a friend and he knocked $1000 off the price because off a transmission issue...... when the truck sits for a few hours i can jump in and go and theres absalutely no problems, however after maybe 5 or 10 miles i start to hear a noice from the transmission. I can let off the gas and the noice almost go's away (get back on gas and it comes back), when in park or neutral the noice go's away completely. the truck still shifts fine going down the road however it shifts alittle rough goin from drive to reverse. any ideas???..... also my transmission pan measure's 3" deep is this a deep pan or shallow pan??? thanks!!

you have a regular pan,...take it to a tranny shop for more info ,,,you're complaint is clear as mud to this tranny guy ,sry bud ,internet cant help you with tannsmissions...changing oil and filter does not help you either

good luck

any updates with this?I would start by looking at the fluid,How do you know its the trans?the roughness shifiting from drive to reverse could very well be bad ujoints. If its more of a hummy noise ill put money on the rear diff.

well, no definate updates as to diagnoseing exactly what is going on, however I was told by a friend machanic that he thinks it could be a small fluid pump that are in these transmission? which makes alittle since to me because it go's away if the truck sits overnight (fluid cool's down) and then the "humming" noice comes back after driving it a few miles (fluid warms up).... unfortinately theres no shops around me that will work on transmissions, however i did find a machine shop that will do a complete swap out with a transmission that they rebuilt, they put a six month guarantee on it that covers everything, and they do it in less than 24hrs for $1,625, soooo, i think its a pretty good deal and thats pry what ill end up doin.

every warranty for a rebuild is a year ,not 6 months .....be carefull ,,,,more research is required i think

GM rebuilts have a 3yr warranty ,cooler flush, flow rate recorded thru the cooler, its a no brainer and an easy sell

if the nearest dealer does not have a transmission rebuilder and something goes wrong with the new SRTA

(Service Replacement Transmission Assembly) the dealer will replace the whole tranny again,

Jasper's tranny's are warrantied for 3 yrs and 100k miles I think... If you don't mind paying a premium they're the one to go with.
