Oh my - might be able to shift out of park without the lock. If mine did that I wouldn't get it fixed. I got along just fine before they implemented that nanny in vehicles....

then that means you are Liable if your truck rolls away, and Injures or Kills someone by running them over and crushing them. and if they Live after that, the Victim can sue you for EVERYTHING you Own.

Little bit sensational? If someone is stupid enough to mess with the shifter then they can deal with the fallout. It's not like it will magically jump out of park.

Gosh how did I ever live without all the government mandated nannies???

Fords did that, it would be sitting just idleing and it would jump into gear and go all by its self. Had a work truck do that and knock a trailer off its blocking. :jester:

Well that's another matter entirely. But just not having an interlock isn't a big deal to me. I've driven vehicles like that and never ran over a single thing.

i had nothing to do with those shifters

What happens when a supplier is at fault in a situation like this? I assume they get to supply correct parts for free but do they have to cover labor/recall costs too?

we had a situation like this with the 2011 accord end bolts which is what the trans cable attaches to on the shifter, they were breaking and causing accidents. we took a HUUUUGE hit on those it cost us tons of money, this happened about 6 months before i started there in 2011 and even though we are supplied with those parts we were still at fault because the lot traces werent properly written down. im not sure if we have to resupply the parts for free but i know there is significant testing of new parts after that happens and the cell takes a huge hit because we have to be incredibly thorough until the matter is taken care of. definitely costs the supplier thousands of dollars though when something goes wrong like that.

Emergency Brake when parked? Parking paws are real weak anyway, I have learned to always use the emergency brake when parking.

I always use mine but I'm in the minority on that.

I use my parking brake in my Aveo all the time since its a hand Operated Parking Brake (and the Owner's Manual SAYS to Use it!), but I use the parking brake Occasionally in the truck when I'm checking the mail.
