I finally got my truck regeared, and all I can say is WOW. Greatest investment of my life! Anyone who has a lifted truck I would definitely recommend regearing it. I put 4.11's in and my power is back, and I have stock gas mileage right now. Just thought I'd make this post if anyone has any questions about regearing!

That's great news!

The only thing stopping me from lifting since I bought my truck almost 2 years ago is losing the fuel mileage. My truck runs awesome right now and does great on fuel, and I didn't want to ruin that.

I assume your signature is correct and your running a 6 inch BDS, with 35 inch tires? I also assume your truck is a 5.3 6 speed? Or I guess being a Denali, it's the big 6 engine isnt it?

I feel a regear in these trucks is by far the best bang for your buck. 3.08 and even the 3.42 will not take advantage of the 300+hp these engines produce. Congrats on the regear. Hopefully gm marketing reps read some of these forums and understand we do not want 3.08s. The only people who buy 3.08s are people who have no idea what it means. It's stressful buying a new on lot vehicle or used truck and having to look for 3.73 and settling for 3.42s while disregarding the 3.08s. Why a truck with OD would come with anything less than 3.73 is beyond me.

Well, it's 100% highway, I live out of town, and when I go into town it is a town of 700, so there is absolutely no stop and go. I have a black bear tune, and at the moment I get anywhere from 14.5 to 15.5 mpg, matters what road I'm on (hills or flat). Maybe most 6.2's were higher than that stock, but I didn't get any better than 16 when it was stock. Usually around that 15.5 mark.

you tuned/corrected for oversize tires and gears?

This is what I was asking. A tune is great, but it has to be redone with the new gear ratio or your computer/speedo are telling lies.

My pinion bearing collapsed on me and I was thinkn of going for 4.11 gears over my 3.73's and was wondering if it would get me better gas mileage, cause I also have 35 inch tires on a 6 inch lift but I have them on an 02 with the 4L60E, so not sure if it would help on a 4 speed. It would also help with towing a 5000 lb. trailer on a 1500

4.88's and yes it would help.

You're saying go for 4.88's? How would that effect the MPG's on the highway cruising 80?

Rolling 35s and towing it will help a lot

I do quite a bit of highway driving so I don't want my mpg's to go down terribly, I just want a little bit more power back, and make it a little easier to tow around my boat or trailer. I get 14 around town and 17-19 on the highway. But when I tow it goes down to 10ish. Just figured this would be the best time to regear since the dealer told me the ring and pinion are both destroyed. I just need to find a used front differential with the 4.10/4.11 gears. Also, was wondering the dealer wants somewhere in the range of $770 to install everything and set it correctly if I provide the parts. Or should I take it to an off road shop?
