If that's accurate, then I've very impressed. I'd much rather have a ~ flat torque curve.

A new 4 cylinder turbo diesel will be installed in a GM truck for 15, Iron block aluminum heads. The 5.3 won't matter much after this.

I hope you're joking with that last sentence, Super 8. A turbo engine will never be able to replace a proper V8 engine. Overall output and torque numbers aren't everything, despite what the manufacturers and internets will say.

 

I can't wait to see the dyno graphs for the 5.3! :)

Of course it will. That will be a torque-rich but sluggish engine, just like I'm sure the Ram diesel will be (basing that off of performance numbers for the Grand Cherokee diesel). The big diesels have power potential but the ones they seem to be pushing for the half tons are economy-focused. Which means slow. Which means I'll never consider it because fuel economy is about the last thing I look for.

Exactly, if fuel economy is a main factor in whether which truck or engine you're going to buy, perhaps a truck isn't for you to begin with. Responsive naturally asprirated engines with torque and hp all across the rev range is what matters to me when it comes to the powertrain. The figures about city/highway economy couldn't matter any less to be honest, because if my truck can't pull down a tree and haul it too, it's not worth having. And besides, we've always had a fuel efficient car alongside the trucks, so when moving people around or city driving matters there's always an alternative.

    • About the only GM that compares well with its competitors through the small to midsize vehicles is the Trax. I would like nothing better to just drive GMs. My wife in a Cadillac me in a Chevy minivan and Colorado. Part of my day is comprised of reading and watching comparisons of automobile. I could buy a car today. I’m back to research the next. 
    • Do you have any DFM defeat devices like the Range modules?
