In my current situation, if it happened to me and the options you listed were available.. I would go with the complete door replacement more so just because of my time contraints being a full time student who works 2/3 time..

Been a while since I checked my thread! Glad to see some more responses

Work has been keeping me busier than I would like to be...

I did manage to play with the door some more and I can open it, then it rubs the fender and door together.

And in order to shut it, I have to really lift up on the door. As in, really forcing it back into the latch...I hope it did not hurt the latch.

I will be grabbing a new door when I can get more time to look around, and now that I work for a dealership, maybe I can get something through our suppliers...

It is on the back burner for now, I have gotten a little used to the still very sad climb through the passenger door :D

I don't think I will ever underestimate the greatness of having a working driver's door :nopity:

Can someone tell me more about the wiring that goes into the door?

What will I need to connect or disconnect for a "new" door that should have existing wiring...?

Thanks again everyone

I think it's pretty interesting how we have all had experiences like this. Sometimes it just happens. Here we all try to keep up with our truck to the nines, yet it even happens to us. Every now and again something like this happens to, like you said, keep us all humble.

Yeah, I did something like that one time while backing up trying to get unstuck - but it was in my 1950 DeSoto!

Do you have a hanes manual or something similar to it? Should show you a nice and easy step my step procedue, I'd reference mine but it's in the non-attached garage and it's raining.

Hey David, hope you're getting closer to your door replacement. Hopping across the truck to get out the passenger side can get stressfull after a while. How's your new job doing ? Anyway, the factory harness I believe has a connector in the kick panel next to the emergency brake. You'll have to try to work the panel off by either pulling it out with the pedal up or maybe down (depressed), don't know how you might find it easier to work around. The panel has several clips and they may pull out easily or come off the panel altogerther when you try to remove it. They are easy to reinstall. Once you find the cable and loosen the connector , you can pull the accordion rubber boot off and pull out the end from the cavity. Hopefully if and when you get the replacement door, the junkyard you get it from won't butcher or chop the harness up so it will be easy to revesre the step and replug. If they do chop it up or damage it, then you will have to carefully disassemble your door and the new one completely and disconnect every plug, connector and clip holding the wiring in place or anything that's plugged into it. Then taking your old harness and reinserting it into the replacement unit and plugging it all back together. Sounds like alot but just a little patience goes a long way. The hanes manual may or may not have the wiring diagrams or schematic as it is known but I don't think it will tell or show where the connectors or plugs are. The harness is carefully made to exact lengths with the plugs at different locations relevent to the device plugging into it. The connectors also likely will have different sizes and shapes as well as possible orientation so its highly unlikely you'll plug anything into the wrong devices. Disassembly and following the cabling is the only way I know how. Good luck ! :D
