What's up. My name's Rob. Born and raised in Northern California, I'm your average suburbanite that has his head in the clouds dreaming of owning a ranch. I was raised by my Grandfather, a carpenter/gardener/investor from Ohio - and one of the biggest things he taught me was self reliance. One of the biggest parts of my self-reliance is having a utility behicle. Without a pick up there are a lot of things you just can't get done on your own. Ever since I bought my first pickup when I was 18, I couldn't ever go back. You can have your BMWs and your Priuses. I'll have my pick-up truck.

I'm new here and to GM trucks in general.

I used to be a Toyota fanboy. Drank that koolaid till the pot ran dry. I've gone through an '86 2WD Toyota Pickup, a '92 Toyota 4x4 and a '02 4x4 Tacoma. They were my "little boy" trucks. They were nice and all for their simplicity. That's how Toyota manages to hold on to their supreme "reputation" as being so reliable. The less you have, the less that can fail.

I got married and we've now got a kid on the way (wife's about 17 weeks pregnant right now) and we intend to work on a second kid. I quickly began to realize that my spartan Tacoma was not going to be enough truck for a family. (It was an extended cab, but those aren't really real seats back there.) Tacomas can get very cramped. I looked into Tundras, but bang-for-buck you get all that and more for a lot less money buying an american truck (at least, when it comes to full-size). The more I read and researched, the more that I realized that Toyota just wasn't going to make the cut. I've had a plenty enough experience with Ford trucks that I would never buy one, and I don't like the way Dodge trucks look, inside and out. It boiled down to one obvious contender: a Silverado or Sierra.

I spent months doing research and finally found a beaut that we both loved - A Stealth Grey Metalic 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Crew Cab 4.8L RWD. He's got 82k miles on him. I love this truck. It's comfortable and roomy as all hell, has twice the cargo space, feels really strong and stable on the road, and is worlds better in almost all other aspects than my old Tacoma. This thing will be great for road trips, camping, hauling and keeping my kids safe in the back seats.

I've still got a lot of learning and research to do, but I highly doubt this truck is capable of disappointing me. I look forward to joining in on the discussions here and I'll be happy to call myself a GM geek.
