Windows 8

If you happen to have a copy of it laying around maybe. But I wouldn't mind buying a machine with Win8 because of the 2 posts above yours. As long as I have a start menu I'm happy, and it is faster from what I've seen so far. Hopefully it doesn't rot like Vista did.

I agree. I just didn't want to buy one and it's majorly sluggish, but the one I'm looking at has decent specs so it should be pretty quick.

Software is basically a monoploy business, for the desktop market anyway. Yes, I know there are other operating systems like Linx, etc. But these are not widely used or supported. Windows 8 is the biggest piece of overly complicated pretty garbage to come out of MicroSoft since Vista.

All of us feel we need to accept it (because we do) since there are not any alternatives.

You know it's an issue when Windows 7 users (you can search this) are generally having a hard time learning it. I preordered a machine from Best Buy with Windows 8. I had the machine a week and took it back for a Windows 7 machine.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant.....well I guess it is!

Just got my laptop today. I didn't mind the Windows 8 Setup, but I installed the startisback program to get it setup like Windows 7 just because im used to it.

IMO, unless your running a touchscreen, it SUCKS! (When compared to Win 7).

I wanted to buy a Mac, but for one specked out how I wanted it I think it was around 2 grand if not more. my brother bought a really nice used one off of his buddy a few months ago for $200. If I knew he was selling it I would have bought it.

Hahaha my topics are never on topic. IMO, there are 4 major disadvantages to a Mac.

1. Very limited choice of hardware configurations. With a PC you can choose between multiple manufacturers and pick the one that performs best and is the better value.

2. Difficulty of hardware upgrades. They want you to buy a new one.

3. Everyone would think I'm a hipster.

4. Price and practicality.

Granted, I have never owned a Mac, but those are the reasons, especially the prohibitive price, that will keep me from ever owning one. When their price for a good 15" laptop compares to my Dell XPS and I can figure out how their operating system works I'd consider one.

^i know exactly what youre saying. I dont use mine for work. I have a work PC for that. I use my MAC for school and personal use. Everything iv ever wanted to put on it i have been able to. Iv used PCs my whole life and when i got a MAC 3 years ago i was a fan from the start. I love the Apple TV feature. I have also owned 2 different Iphones and an Ipod classic i keep all my music on. Its nice to have everything where i want it when i want it. When i got my Iphone 5 a few weeks ago I came home pluged it into my MAC and in about 5mins my new iphone 5 mimiced exactly what my iphone 4 had. I mean down to the T. I didnt have to change one setting on the phone. My alarms from my old phone were moved over as well as all my contacts. Like i said i like having everything work together to well together.

Backup is one of the reasons I like my iphone. When the mic on the first one I had crapped out, it was pretty easy to back it up and restore it to the replacement phone. And yeah it keeps everything. Pretty handy. I think it even does it over wifi so it has the most recent "copy" of your phone if you were to kill it.

Ok quick update, I found a new program called Start8. Downloaded it, set it up for how I like it, and it feels just like my desktop does with Windows 7. I also have it set so that if I hit the windows key on my keyboard it will show me the new tile screen. So far so good. Only downside is that I only have it on a trial version. Complete version is $4.99

Pretty much agree with your statements but with macs being built with Intel processors/products I'd never have a need to over pay for a mac when I can just build a PC and use it as a "hackntosh" if I want to. Also another point to add is it costs more to fix a mac than a PC.

as far as the backup stuff I can do all of that as well with my Android and so much more that isn't as easy or maybe even possible on ios. I put a different operating system on my phone all the time and all my programs are backed up. If i wanted I could back up my settings and wifi passwords as well but I prefer to start fresh. All comes down to personal preference. If I didn't want to tinker with my phone and left it as is I'd probably own an iphone.

When it comes to windows 8 I've heard good things from my more computer savvy friends. Especially those that reverted the UI back to windows look/feel. No one I can think of offhand likes the new 8 UI and those that don't change it have either taken it back, or in the case of one of my patience lacking friend, smashed it to pieces.
