Radio stays powered with no key.

So today I got home from work and turned off my truck. I havent tried to chk the time without turning truck on yet with the GM Nav radio, so I hit the "I" button. Screen powered on, showed time. I hit the "I" again and it powered off. I removed the key from IGN, opened door and a thought occurred if i hit the power knob if it would also show the time.. So I hit the power knob and to my surprise the radio came on!

Every other vehicle ive owned the radio was on the RAP and would stay powered for 20 min after key was removed until the door was opened, which then it would shut off.

So I then figured that the truck must keep power to the radio for 20 min. and then would not let me power radio w/o key..

I came in house for about 30-40 min. went back out , unlocked , hit the knob and the radio powered on!

Now, I actually like this for the fact that If I want to load my truck up and have radio playing , I can and not leave my keys in there... But , I just dont want this to be a drain on my battery. I would assume that If i leave the radio on, it should shut off after 20 min.. But havent tried yet. This weekend I will.

Anyone have a 2012-13 with nav and can check theres? thanx

Hey Jerry our 2012 Equinox does the same thing , if you press the voulme knob when the car is off and the key is out the radio will come on and stay on for 10 minutes then it will go off and you can do the same again . It works good for when someone is in the car and you need the key they can still listen to the radio.It must be on the newer cars and trucks my 09 Sierra does not do it .

Very interesting.. Do you have nav in the equinox? Im wondering if its just the nav radios. I dont think my dads 2011 does this.. his is non nav tho.. Thanx for the reply

Yes there is Nav in our Equinox. A friends 2011 Equinox with no Nav the radio does the same as ours with the button pushing . I'm not sure what year it started this way . Check yours dads out see what it does

It is called train station mode, and yes it will shut off after 10 minutes but you can turn it right back on again and continue to this till the battery dies. It is a nice option and I believe it started with the 2012 models
