2001 Silverado Check Engine Light

All this happened after I changed my fuel pump.


Here are the following codes I got from the scan tool. p0387 and P0449.


Here's what I have replaced:

Fuel Filter

Fuel Pump assembly

EVAP Solenoid (By engine bay and other located by the gas tank)

Replaced both Shift solenoids in my Automatice Transmission.

Fuel Cap.


Here's what I've noticed, my gas pedal is stiffer than usual although it eased after using Seafoam and went back to stiffer.

First sympthom was my truck wouldn't shift, but now it has an abrupt
shift from first to second gear, as well as the stiff gas pedal.


Any suggestions?

The 0449 tells me there's a leak - probably where you pulled the pump out from. EDIT: I see you replaced an EVAP component - check there first.

 

The stiff throttle with tranny issues sounds to me like a frozen kickdown cable .... but I don't think any of these newer (yeah, 01 is newer to me) trucks have that - it's usually computer controlled. So that would leave the throttle position sensor - sounds like the thing got damaged somehow ...

 

I'd double check what is going on in the tranny. Yeah, that means dropping the pan again ...

I haven't seen any fluids in my garage when I've turned on my truck or smell any fuel. I gotta check for the kickdown cable, which opens up the throttle. It's interesting because after using Spray Seafoam, it made it a little looser. I'm thinking may be the throttle converter? I don't know.

Ever clean your throttle body? You might want to take a look at it since it can make your pedal stiff if it's dirty.

there is no kickdown cable which DOES NOT open the throttle body,,

Yeah what Govtech said ... kickdown cables used to run from the carburetor down to the tranny. The tranny would shift based on how far that cable was pulled out. Now they shift based on throttle position, a few other parameters, & some mysterious activity inside the magic box ... AKA the ECM.

 

I'd like to know what a throttle converter is too!
