Hub Bearing Replaced Now Truck Is Not Driving Smooth Like Before Into

Just put new Michelon tires on the 2006 Silverado 1500. Went for alignment at local store and they told me both hubs needed replaced and both inner tie rod ends.

Told them i have an extended warranty and the shop informed me it would not pay for those repairs and handed me a $983 estimate for repairs. Well i read the warranty paperwork and it would so i told them to take off the rack and i would be back if warranty would not cover.

Well took truck to dealer where i got the extended warranty and it would cover the Hub bearing and i was informed it was the idler arm (2 piece) that was bad not the tie rod ends. So both items were covered and the repairs started.

Front drivers side hub was out of specs and it was the only one replaced. Idler arm replaced as well. After alignment (which i did not get copy of the results) I picked up my truck this afternoon. Steering wheel slightly off to the left as well. That should not matter but it should be straight/level when going straight down the road.

While driving home the truck felt weird driving. Felt like it is fighting itself to go smooth down the road. Starts at about 47 MPH and when slowing down to stop can really hear what sounds like a grind growl noise and brakes dont seem the same.

I dont think the truck was put back together correctly. Not in 4x4 as i took out and moved around on the buttons and the t/case shifted in and out of 4x4. So put back in 4x2 and pulled the park brake handle and park brakes were not on so i do not know what else to check.

Man this pisses me off. Truck ran so smoothly down the road and drove/rode/ etc perfectly before these so called repairs to make the hub and front end tight again.

Needless to say the truck will be at their door first thing monday morning with a long nasty letter to explain WTF!!!

Anyone else have this type of issue or is it my luck with that particular dealer.

Sounds like whoever worked on your truck did not get things right. I would demand a printout of the alingment sheet also.

Inner tierods seem to be the bread and butter of tire shops, or a brake job. After getting new tires I was once told that the mechanic noticed rust on my rotors and I should seriously consider replacing. I said thanks for letting me know, I'll take care of it on the weekend. Service adviser told me he could fit me in that afternoon. I told him I'd take a look at them myself and replace if necessary.

Any time you get an alignment and the steering wheel is not centered. The alleged "frontend specialist" and frontend shop don't know what they are doing. I have seen frontend shop do an alignment and a week later it is ripping the tires right off the front.

So Beware.

Sounds like they either didn't align it or did a bad job. Go back and tell them to do it right for free.

when i was at the dealer a print out BEFORE and AFTER are supplied by the tech for a warranty alignment ,,,it is done for customer pay as well,,,,

no sheet means an audit can bite the dealer in the butt and the warranty claim can be denied

well now it is the front diff going out due to the hub bearing. found metal in the front diff fluid. So front diff is being torn out to inspect. Extended warranty paying. i have no deductible and extended warranty paying for rental car. So hopefully it gets done right.

Dealer has to prove their diagnosis if questions arise.

just got word dealer is rebuilding the entire front diff with new gears, bearings, seals, etc. I have to pay for the pinion nut. other rthan that nothing else.

45,600 miles did the hub really do this damage? it didnt wobble that much.

I've never heard of the axle being harmed by the hub. Honestly I'm surprised that hub went out with so few miles on it.

Latest update. both front hubs replaced, idler arm, front diff rebuilt due to the noise. Talk about something junking out all of a sudden. Man i am going elsewhere for my service and repair after this issue.
