BFG All Terrain or Trail grapplers?

Hey I'm new here and was looking on some advice from someone more experienced on which tires I should get.

This is how my truck looks now. Just put on a 2" RC level and probably won't do much else suspension wise.

Now I have 285/70/17 Terra grapplers and they're getting worn so I was looking at getting 285/70/17 BFG AT's or trial graps. I was looking for a tire that performed a little better off-road and I like the look of both the bfg's and trails. Has anyone had both of these tires in a similar size and can offer any advice? If anyone has a similar setup with any pictures that would be great too.

I've had both. The BFG AT's looks okay, and they last, but they do nothing for the looks of a truck IMO, and they suck offroad. Trails look aggressive and eye catching and from what I'm hearing they are lasting 40-50k miles. You really can't compare the two tires for offroad usage anyway, as that's a broad term. Bottom line, your grandpa would rock BFG's.

Thanks for the info. Ive heard that the bfgs require a lot of alignments to get the full mileage out of then. Do your trails seem to wear any more evenly than the bfg's?

I agree, I just switched from Bfg's to Toyo's.

I got 46,000 on a set of BFGs right now with only the initial balancing. Rotated every 8000 miles at every other oil change. Ride fine and worn flat. I work on a farm so I don't need to tell you they haven't been cut any slack. Usually carry about 800 pounds in bed.

They are close to worn out but 50k is a good number. They aren't as rugged as the TGs but just as tough I'm sure. Not as mud capable. They look awesome to me. I love their white lettering. And your grandpa wouldn't run these, he would run some Michelins!

I've run both over the years. The BFG's were on a Dodge 2500 Cummins and they were fine for running gravel roads and highway but they didn't really excel in the mud. I'm on my second set of Trail Grapplers on my Sierra and they have been the best tires I've ever had. Worn evenly, mean as hell off-road, and have nice highway manners.

No experience with BFG. The trail grapplers provide good traction both on and off the road. I had this tire before. Also, these tires are not loud on the highway.

I agree with this. If you want a mudgrip, Trails. If you want an AT, BFG's. To me though, the price wasn't worth it for BFG's, and the Coopers I got ride better than them and actually helped fuel mileage, not to mention are pretty good in mud, sand, gravel etc.

ATZs are awesome!

I've always wanted them, but get to good of a deal on Toyo's :nonod: Unfortunately the shop is not a dealer for Mickey Thompson, so no dice.

The Nittos are a taller tire by size and narrower as well than the BFG. Nittos look cooler as well. Have had both as well as KM2s and Terra grapplers.

I assume your talking about the AT3's. Those tires have been getting some rave reviews online.
