Whining fuel pump

I have started to notice a whining noise coming from under my truck, in the aea of the fuel tank. i can only assume its the fuel pump. its not a constant noise, just intermittent. There are no specific conditions taht cause it that I am aware of, so as far as I can tell, its just random. I had a 2001 ZR2 pickup that had a similar sound that was constant, but it wasnt as loud. I can actually hear this inside my truck. Any idea what the cause could be, or how to stop the whine?

As long as you hear it you are OK, its when you don't hear it that you will need to worry, or at least you will need to be ready to push it off the road when you no longer hear it. My 99 made noise from about 75,000 miles until about 110,000 when the fuel pump died. I did not help it out as my fuel guage did not work at first so I ran out of gas a lot, (have more to do than put gas in truck) got where I did not worry about it not working until one day at 70 mph truck died, towed to dealer and $600.00 later all was good in my world.

I changed mine on my 2000 Suburban proactively. Bought the truck with 153k and previous owner said it always made that noise (constant high pitched whine). Took the old one out and sure enough it was the original. Was probably on it's last legs anyways, now my pump is nice and quiet.

The one on my 2000 4.8 litre went twice in the 350,000 km I drove it. Once at about 110,000, and once at about 370,000 km.. I'd just change it now if your mileage is higher.

my 2003 silvy always has a slight whine...the fact that its not constant would worry me. im amazed its still lasted this long as its an 03 with 150k on it
