SarahsGMC Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Ordered some lows for my truck no big deal easy install but I hear installing highs is tricky? Apparently there is a relay or resistor that needs to be installed and something needs to be bypassed? Can someone elaborate on this or is there a write up anywhere I can follow, looked and didn't see anything, thanks!
Chris Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I just put them in. There wasnt anything special. I use a 9005 in both higs and lows. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4
Carder09 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Do you really need HIDs for highs anyways??? Being that HID's require a basic "warm up" period, highs do not seem feasible to me since you will not be able to flash your lights at people per say. Overkill IMO but hey, I am sure you are installing these HID's into an non-HID housing without use of projector style lights. Expect more people to be pissed when you are cruising down the road.
GasHog369 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 When properly aimed in a halogen housing , HIDs will not cause glare to oncoming traffic. I have them in my 2012, had them in my 06. Gotta aim them properly and nothing to worry about. As to your question sarah, sometimes you need to run a direct line to the battery depending on the ballast you are running. 35w, you can plug and play, 55w its recommended to run a line. Reason being some stock wiring on vehicles cant handle the 55w. That said I had 55w DDM hids on my 06 and they ran ok via plug n play. Only issue i had were there ballasts were terrible and would fry.
Chris Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I run 55w. I get flashed with projectors. I have thrm in thie highs because I dont usr them to flash people. I use them to see on a dark road. I grt flashed with them in my lows and using projectors. They are adjusted down quite a bit as well Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4
SarahsGMC Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 I'm not worried about what other people think I'm worrying about myself. As for ballasts are you saying the stocks fried on high beams? I'm just worried it will look goofy having blue dims and white everything else
Chris Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 What temp are you going? I have 6000k in lows/highs/fogs Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4
Carder09 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Make sure to run an relay so when you initially start the truck, your lows won't try to turn on right away as for highs, wouldn't worry about a relay for them.
SarahsGMC Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 They are a 9006 55w 6000k, I know the kit comes with wires and plugs
Carder09 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I would also advise on upgrading all the wiring to 12 gauge. And I mean all.
MikeNH Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Why would she need to upgrade the wiring? 55w is what a normal low beam bulb is.
Carder09 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Sorry, guess if you would like justification, do a voltage drop test on your headlights to see what you are actually getting to the bulbs rather than what you think. Stock wiring is garbage. You could also shorten the length of the wiring to allow less resistance in the system allowing a better "flow" of electrons to get the required power you need to your lights. Sure many probably have had no issues with stock wiring, but I can tell you the people with upgraded wiring that has been rerouted and using an bigger gauge actually had a tad bit brighter lighting.
