Well today i went and test drove a 2014 Silverado 5.3 double cab with 3.42 rear. First i drove a 2013 ltz just because of the rebates. Drove the same route about 5% city and 95% highway. Well i pulled off the interstate to loop back around with the 2014, my wife says look behind you and i saw a huge cloud of smoke. I made it a few more miles where i could pull over, at this point the transmission was slipping pretty good. Well long story short the salesmen had to come pick me up and have a tow truck come.

I took a quick look under the truck and it looked like a transmission line came loose.

Besides that the 2014 rides much better and has much more power than the 13. Now im not sure what to trade my 2004 2500hd silverado in on. I was kind of on the fence of a ram.

Wow that is crazy. What did the dealership say about the ordeal??

the dealership kept telling me they were vary sorry. The owner of the dealer came over and told me that he has never had this happen before. than asked me how i liked the 14 over the 13.

You could make this work for you on a new deal for a 14

That's what I was thinking. :-)

Can't compare?!! Did you just read about the breakdown and the other issues people are having on the first year trucks?! Buy the 13, don't be the tester for the 2014 models.... Never buy a first year anything!

Hey there,

I am deeply sorry to hear that you had a bad experience while test driving one of our vehicles. I hope that this experience does not steer you away from our products.

Sincerely,

While there was alot of restyling and retooling going on, the "bones" of the truck aren't all that different - and that goes for the tranny. My truck has 3,600 miles on it purchased new w/ 100, and that's a good mix of long interstate drives, multiple WOT runs on onramps pulling all the way up to 110, windy backroads, dead stopped city traffic, and some rough bumpy roads up in ME and NH. Truck has performed flawlessly. Zero issues. Way way way quieter and more comfortable than my Dad's 2007 LTZ Silverado...Oh yeah, BTW - that was the "first" year of that truck and it now has 110,000 miles and running strong.

You act like they don't test the crap outta these things before they sell them. This is not a cobalt, its an EXTREMELY important vehicle for GM, if not the MOST important.

Buy the 2014.... 2013 isn't even in the same ballpark.

Agreed. I walked into dealers thinking I was shopping for a 2013 Denali CC, but after driving those back to back against an SLT 2014 it was like comparing a Chevy to Caddy...no comparison. Despite being down about 50 HP (although to the wheels its not that large a gap all the 2013 denali trucks have idiotic AWD) the power difference didn't seem that tangible and the '14 SLT beat the snot outta it in every other way measurable.

And don't forget you're comparing a 6.2 and a 5.3 and you're still able to make that comment. IMO that says a lot. No tangible difference in power and night and day difference in fuel economy...
