BAK FLIP F1

Anyone have the BAK FLIP F1 (or any rigid folding bak flip) installed on their truck?

I had one on my previopus truck and loved it, but wanted to see how they have been working with this truck for anyone who has it installed.

Where did you route the drain tubes for the left and right channels if you already installed one? Drill through the bed of the truck or something better?

On my 2011 F150 I was able to drill through some plastic plugs which was painless, but we dont have that option on this bed. Looks like it would require drilling through the metal bed....

Just look for any info from anyone with it installed.

Also...where did you buy it from and what kind of deal did you get? It always seems if you call you get a much better deal due to Bak Flip's required minimum advertised pricing.

My Dad picked up a '14 crewcab shortie a few weeks ago. I installed a BakFlip FiberMax on it. Took maybe 30min. that includes opening the box(LoL!) The drain tubes are routed to the left and right stake pockets, just removed the oval plastic plugs and pushed the tube thru, simple.

He had an older BakFlip on his last truck which was the second truck that particular cover was on. He had some issues with the rubber weatherstriping shrinking in the corners, and in a couple locations on the cover the rubber was lifting off the rigid panel. The new cover appears to be made better, I guess time will tell. I can try and grab some pics later today of the drain tubes.

I installed the Bakflip F1 on my 2014 Sierra last week and it is great. I did it myself and believe me I have no mechanical ability whatsoever. The day before I installed a bedrug successfully. I ordered them both directly from Bakflip as we had no dealer in my hometown. Both were an easy install. Customer service was very good also.

As to your question as to where the drain hose went: There were plastic plugs on both upper sides of the cab part of the bed ( approx. 4 inches from the top of the bedrail and 10 inches from the side ) and I elected to use these to exit the water. With the Bakflip partially closed at any position one can hardly see them. Fully opened, the tubes are visible against the cab wall-part of the bed but in my opinion they are not very conspicuous. There are also plastic plus along the side of the bed near the front and these can be used in lieu of where I elected. I just popped out the plugs and inserted the drain hose. At first I thought I would have to drill holes in the middle of the plug in which to pass the hose but the bedrug covers the plug very nicely.

By the way, I washed my rig after installing the tonneau and no water was present, so I was pleased at what the company representative said about the F1 being one of the most waterproof covers they sell. Not sure as to how to post pictures, but it is a possibility if you need some. Again, if I did this by myself, anyone else can do it in half the time!

I just ordered the FiberMax, spoke with the customer service rep to get a deal (free shipping to Canada and no tax) Same construction, seals, and hinges as the F1. The F1 just uses slightly thicker panels for people that want to stand on it and what not. FiberMax is way cheaper and I dont need the "contracter grade" thickness of the F1.

I am looking into one myself except I like the looks of the BakFlip VP. I think it is their newest model, constructed just like the F1 but has a vinyl cover on top of the aluminum to hide the hinges. Looks very clean like a one piece tonneau cover. Anyone have any experience with this one?

I loved the F1 due to its heavy "contractor" grade as well as the latches are slightly different/higher quality.

I am not sure the extra panel thickness and panels are worth the extra couple of bucs. I liked the drain system on the F1 I had before and I imagine it hasnt changed much.

ROADBLOCK can you let me know how the fibermax looks quality wise? I imagine the the fibermax has the new style of flush hinges also, but let me know. Pictures would be great!!

When full open does it lien on the truck cab? My friend upstate went with the undercover. Is it comparable? I have not seen either in person.

There are three rubber bumper strips which are put on the Bakflip at strategic points where it rests against the truck cab preventing any contact. Works real well and the middle one fits perfectly under the brake light mounted at the top and middle of the cab.

And that's why I went with the Undercover Flex. I didn't want anything resting against the back of the truck cab if I had the top opened fully.

Yep, I sure will. Gonna post pics once it's delivered and I install it.

I was looking at the VP, not sure how I feel about a vinyl top though, just seems like it might look cheap. I would love to see one in person on our trucks.

Also looked at the Undercover Flex, not so sure the same quality is going to be there as the BakFlip. Plus the whole resting on the cab thing kind of seems like a better alternative than propping it up vertically on tiny little rods to act like a sail in the wind.
