Thanks everybody I finally called and they said to send their warranty support some info and they will probably send me a new one. This either got labeled wrong or assembled wrong they think.

I have the BakFlip VP and really like the look. Had the F1 on my '11 and liked it too. Just wanted a new look. For the tube exit, I drilled holes in the black plastic caps just big enough for the tubes to pass through. No leaks. I also have the BakBox.

 

As far as the third brake light is concerned, you don't have to run with it open this far unless you want to. I moved some furniture where I needed to and the folded up cover protected the rear window. Light was blocked by the furniture anyway. I mostly used the position just before flipping it up when I need it open. There are hooks in place to bungee the flipped portion.

 

As others said I installed it with the molding in front compressed by the front edge but I also added a tailgate sealer molding that I got from Extang. There are several kit out there for this purpose. Not only helps with water but dust coming in from between tailgate and bed when closed.

 

On the BakBox, the only issue I had was their fastener holes were not spaced wide enough so I just measured and drilled more holes. It attaches firmly now.

 

Weather is bad, but I'll try to get some pics when it clears up.

I just installed my BakFlip FiberMax on a "standard-box" (6.5') bed. Two pics show the left/right drain tubes, one pic is the look of the FiberMax closed. I have concern the drain tubes are 'crimped' trying to navigate that tough angle from the rail to the drain holes, so I may have to doctor this arrangement up. I will re-post when I have actual weather experience with this set-up. Living in S. Calif we are not in any rain season yet. Also, there could be "blow back" from the holes where the tubes go outside the box, but guessing that will be minimal. If not, I will have to find a way to seal up the rest of the plug area exiting the box (maybe by drilling a hole in the bed-plug that matches the size of the drain tube).

 

(Note: the pic shows I am going through my "drop-in" bed liner (with porthole access to the original bed plugs) - it is removal of the actual bed plug that gives you access to draining outside the box.)

 

Hope it helps. I'll look back here too for other experiences with their setups too.

 

My drain tubes are installed exactly like this. Just had to drill thru bedliner and routed tubes thru plastic caps in bed.

I really love the smooth/finished/"factory" look of the VP cover. Probably what I'm going for (either that or the Roll-X).

 

Not too many people talk about the Roll-X? Curious of real-world reviews, good or bad. Like anything else, it seems there may be some pros/cons with it compared to the tri-fold design of the Bak-Flip VP.

I would also love to hear any personal experience on the Roll-X. I'd like to put a hard cover on my '14 and prefer the Roll-X style to the other retractable options out there due to taking up less space in the bed when it's rolled up, they way I use the bed often enough to require the cover rolled back just don't think I want to deal with the hard folding panel setups.
