Hanger bolts

I wanted to drop the arse end of my truck to match my front. If you guys have seen a SCSB with the Z71 package then you know it looks like a funny car with the amount of rake it has. I was thinking of just pulling out my rear leaf block and put it all back together to give the desired rear drop. Do you guys think I will need different bolts for the hanger as in ones with longer threads. The rear block looks to be about 2-3 inches and I can`t tell just by eyeballing if the bolts will have long enough threads.

From an earlier post I started, it appears the bolts have to be replaced irregardless. Something due to stretching. I would also like to remove the blocks.

 

Hopefully someone who has actually done this will provide further guidance.

I ordered 2 inch lowering shackles and new u bolts with longer threads. The single cabs short box with the Z71 sits 36" in the front and 40.5" in the back (middle of fender to ground). Those two should drop me 3.75" to 4" which will make it level with the front. I don't want it slammed I just want a clean level look that isn't jacked up like every other pickup you see.

Where did you order your u bolts and shackles? I was thinking of doing the exact same. If you pull the blocks + drop shackles you might have to shim the rear end a bit to keep your pinion angle good and keep your driveshaft from vibrating.

Can't wait to see it. I just hope 4" isn't to much for the rear and the back end is lower than the front.

 

I know my truck is a little low for your taste but when I was having it done I considered a 3"/6" and my shop told the back would be lower than the front so I stayed with the 3"/5".

 

Here are some pictures from a truck here in Houston that has a 4"/6" on a RCSB Silvy. Imagine if he had gone 2" more in the back that should give you a idea of what a 4" difference will be.

Where did you order your u bolts and shackles? I was thinking of doing the exact same. If you pull the blocks + drop shackles you might have to shim the rear end a bit to keep your pinion angle good and keep your driveshaft from vibrating.

I ordered the u bolts and shackles from rough country, I should have them sometime this week so I will take a picture of before and after. Others on here have already dropped the back 4 inches without shimming so I should be fine. If you think about it, the truck with a fair bit of payload would sink more than that so I don't think they would make it vibrate at that height.

This has me a little perplexed now. I'm wondering if it's because I have the z71 package and 4x4 that it sits so high in the back. I have measured it many times and keep getting 36" in the front and 40.5" in the back. This is from the ground, to the middle of each fender. Maybe I can man up and just order the mcglaughys full kit if I think about it enough. That way I get rid of the junk, way over dampened stock ranchos and have the drop and the ride I'm after. I was debating putting the bilstien 5100's on to soften up the ride but the 4/6 kit comes with new adjustable struts and shocks.

Thats true, I never shimmed my 06 crew cab and never had any vibration on the 2" drop shackles only.

 

Mine sits 35.5" front and 39.5" in the back and its a 2wd crew cab w/o z71 package. I don't see how a 2" of drop in the rear would make it sit level...but maybe one your used to the awkward stock rake 2" looks a lot better haha. I'm goin to order u bolts and pull the blocks and add a 2" shackle too, thanks for the info.

Just a thought about this...the 4" rear drops I've seen here are all done using a flip kit, which allows adjustment of the pinion angle without shimming. You basically set the pinion angle where you like and tighten the u bolts. Looking forward to seeing the pics of yours and hearing how it works out! Your full payload argument; however, makes me think it should be fine.
