Windows Freezing Shut

Hey Folks,

Did a search and found some earlier discussions (from much earlier) on this, but with no difinitive solutions. So thought I would resurect the topic - in case anyone has discovered a solution...

With winter (and ice fishing season) coming I need to be able to lower the windows on my 2006 Sierra. Seems with even a little ice (humidity and cold), the windows will stick. I'm thinking the motors are under powered, but I have to live with that.

I do use the putty knife on the exterior, but would like to find a more convenient solution.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This is just one of those things that you get to deal with in the winter. Everything I've owned has done it at one time or another. I just blast the heat on defrost and eventually it melts enough to use the window.

Also living in the land of the wind chill factor, this has worked for me:

Give window tracks a good scrubbing. Let dry. Silicone spray. Let dry.

(I've crank windows, so rocking up / down usually frees them.)

I also silicone weatherstripping around door. Seems to help with sticky doors after freezing precip.

I have a 2001 with cranks. I carry a putty knife in the winter. The lower seals hold the water and freeze to the glass. Defrost takes too long but will do the trick if you are patient. I am not. I figure it is also a safety issue. If for some strange reason you end up in the lake being able to crank you window down is very handy. lol Manual doesn't short out.

I actually had a manual window regulator let go in my 2003. I was trying to roll down the window as it was fogged up but apparently there was some frost too and with very lite force, it broke and got stuck down a slight amount. It was fun that afternoon changing it while watching the sky get darker and darker. As I was putting my tools away the rain started.
